Job description

Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientists on the team, the Research Associate will perform routine and complex computational tasks throughout training period. Will develop, adapt, and implement novel research algorithmic techniques and software. Curates and analyzes data. Will work with state-of-the-art computing hardware. May assist in preparation of grant proposals. Participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author.

The Research Associate I in the Dou Lab at Cedars-Sinai will create and lead research to improve translational cancer research by leveraging clinical and image data. In the Dou Lab we use advanced data science methods, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to investigate the use of multimodal medical image data, including but not limited to CT and MRI, as well as electronic health records (EHR) and genomics data to improve clinical decision making in cancer treatments. The successful candidate will have access to the rich and unparalleled resources at Cedars-Sinai Cancer.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • Will participate in publications and presentations as author or co-author.
  • Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • May develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes, and compiles data.
  • Performs routine and complex computational tasks throughout the training period.
  • Operates and maintains group hardware, software, and data.
  • May observe MD-patient or MD-human research subject interactions as it pertains directly to research being performed.

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Biological sciences - minimum


Experience

  • 1 year of experience - preferred


Licenses and Certifications

  • No license or certification required
  • Performs a variety of routine laboratory tasks and procedures.
  • Keeps accurate and detailed project records of experiments and results.
  • May assist with animal husbandry.
  • Maintains lab equipment and related records.
  • Transports, processes and logs samples.
  • Maintains computer database with relevant clinical information.
  • Performs lab maintenance duties, including glassware cleaning and sterilization.
  • Maintains stocks of general lab materials, and places orders for lab equipment and supplies.
  • Assists new students and fellows at the laboratory.
  • Assists in the operation of specialized equipment and machinery.
  • Observes and complies with safety standards and procedures.
