Job description

Overview

The Data Analyst will assist the AVP of Institutional Effectiveness and Academic Planning in leading the systematic collection, analysis, and distribution of data to guide decision-making and provide support for institutional improvement, planning, operations, and accreditation.  This individual will oversee reporting to federal agencies, state agencies and accrediting bodies, and work with Touro University California stakeholders to enhance the understanding, collection, and use of data as well as provide expertise in analysis and reporting.

Responsibilities

In addition to the following specific duties and responsibilities, the incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills and abilities as needed to complete job-related work.

• SQL Development: Write and optimize complex SQL queries to extract, integrate and transform data to support institutional research activities.
• Data Management: Develop, implement, and maintain data sets related to admissions, enrollment, retention, graduation, licensure exams, financial aid, and survey results.
• Data Integrity: Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data through routine audits, validation checks, and best practices in data governance.
• Data Analysis and Presentation: Utilize data analysis techniques to gather, interpret, and present key institutional metrics, ensuring effective communication of findings to diverse stakeholders through reports, dashboards, and presentations
• Data Reporting: Ensures the timely and accurate reporting to federal and state agencies, accrediting bodies, and other external agencies and organizations. Collaborate with the Institutional Effectiveness staff to provide data analysis, generate reports, and support data-informed decision-making for institutional initiatives.
• Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., IT, Admissions, Financial Aid) to gather data requirements and ensure the smooth integration of data systems.
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in data science, data management, statistics or a related field. A master’s degree is preferred.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience working with large relational databases (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server).
• Proven statistical analytical skills
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts and ETL (extract, transform, and load) processes.
• Knowledge of database design and management principles.
• Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) is a plus.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail with a focus on data accuracy and quality.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Preference will be given to Candidates with:
• Knowledge of institutional research methodologies and data reporting requirements in higher education.
• Experience in higher education, specifically with admissions, enrollment, and student data, is preferred.
• Familiarity with data privacy laws such as FERPA, GDPR, or other relevant regulations.
