Fair State Capital LP (“Fair State Capital”) is a Minneapolis-based alternative investment manager specializing in mortgage-related investments. Fair State Capital utilizes analytical expertise and operational capabilities to capture value and produce attractive risk-adjusted returns to investors.


Position Overview

The Data Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in Minneapolis, MN. This role is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines that support investment research, portfolio monitoring, and business operations. Day-to-day tasks include developing and optimizing ETL processes, managing data models and data warehouses, and ensuring data quality and reliability across multiple internal and external data sources. The Data Engineer collaborates with investment, analytics, and operations teams to understand data requirements and deliver scalable solutions, while continuously improving performance, security, and documentation of the data infrastructure.


Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy a complex data warehouse platform to process and analyze large volumes of data.
  • Design, develop, and deploy reports and GUI applications using Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Build and manage server administration and a Cloud-based infrastructure. Build and manage multiple database environments for progressive development, testing, and production of analytical data solutions.
  • Create solutions with event-based technologies to ingest and process data; build and operationalize data solutions, identify data anomalies, apply transformations, and recommend data cleansing/quality solutions.
  • Work with structured and/or unstructured data; optimize jobs for performance and scalability to handle big data workloads.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot jobs, identify and resolve issues or bottlenecks.
  • Implement best practices for data management, security, and governance within the environment.
  • Proficient writing SQL queries and programming including stored procedures and reverse engineering existing process.
  • Perform code reviews to ensure fit to requirements, optimal execution patterns and adherence to established standards.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or a related field.
  • Proficient in developing programs Python, MySQL/SQL, C++, or Java; SQL Server based development of large datasets as well as developing/deploying ETL programs.
  • Experience in building sustainable solutions using multiple data sources from various entities on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Must be presently legally authorized to work in the United States for any U.S. employer now or in the future.
  • This position is not eligible for employment-based visa sponsorship.


Compensation & Benefits

The expected annual base salary range for this position is USD $75,000 - $105,000. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related factors, including but not limited to education and skills, and is commensurate with experience. Additional compensation and benefits include a discretionary bonus and flexible paid time off.
