Job description

The Memphis Grizzlies are seeking an accomplished, data-driven leader for the role of Director of Marketing. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, the person in this role will oversee Performance Marketing, Direct Marketing, Marketing Operations and Marketing Technology, driving strategies that maximize revenue, grow and engage our fanbase, and elevate our brand across the Grizzlies, FedExForum, Memphis Hustle and Grind City Media. They will work in lockstep with the Director of Creative Services to keep marketing and creative strategy fully aligned, from brand direction through execution. The ideal candidate brings throughline strategic and operational expertise in all facets of digital marketing from lead acquisition to outcome measurement with the ability to develop and manage a team in support of departmental and organizational marketing objectives.


Marketing Strategy, Advertising & Direct Marketing

  • Partner with the VP of Marketing to shape the department’s marketing vision and omni-channel strategy including advertising, fan marketing communications, lead generation and lifecycle marketing using customer personas and journey mapping
  • Guide paid advertising, email, SMS, push notification and website/mobile app strategy to grow revenue (ticket sales, corporate partnerships) and engage our fanbase
  • Guide execution of major revenue-generating campaigns
  • Own the end-to-end funnel from lead capture and data collection through campaign execution to outcome measurement, adjusting strategy based on performance data
  • Define KPIs with the VP of Marketing and use data-driven insights to measure campaign performance and identify areas for improvement

Marketing Technology

  • Lead the Sr. Manager of Marketing Technology to ensure the website, mobile app, marketing automation and analytics platforms are best-in-class, high-performing and built to elevate the fan experience
  • Ensure our digital platforms and marketing technology stack are optimized to convert fan engagement into revenue, driving ticket sales, e-commerce and other digital revenue streams
  • Partner on the tools, data infrastructure and automation strategy that support marketing efficiency, personalization and decision-making across the department

Marketing Operations

  • Oversee the Marketing Operations function, partnering with the Marketing Project Manager to set priorities, workflows and best practices for project execution
  • Establish clear request processes and timelines, and train internal departments on project requirements and turn-times
  • Monitor progress, hold the team accountable to deadlines, and lead project post-mortems to improve future execution

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Coach, mentor and develop your direct reports, building a team that is accountable, collaborative and positioned to grow
  • Partner in lockstep with the Director of Creative Services, from brand direction and creative concepting through final execution, to ensure marketing strategy and creative output are cohesive and aligned
  • Serve as an integrator across departments such as Ticket Sales, Partnerships, Broadcast and Community Engagement, keeping cross-functional partners aligned and moving together
  • Bring sound judgment and decisiveness to high-pressure moments when priorities compete
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or a related field
  • 8-10 years of full-time marketing experience, including managing paid advertising campaigns, brand strategy, and email marketing
  • 3-5 years managing staff, including project assignments and performance evaluation
  • Proven track record in sports marketing, communicating confidently and driving alignment across departments
  • Skilled in leading, prioritizing and delegating multiple concurrent, time-sensitive projects, including large cross-departmental implementations
  • Strong command of KPIs, metrics, scorecards and dashboards to measure and communicate marketing performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail in writing and proofreading
  • Proactive, well-organized operator who drives on-time, in-scope delivery and brings strong problem-solving skills
  • A confident people leader who sets clear standards, develops direct reports, and holds a bar for execution across the team
  • Comfortable operating in high-stress, high-stakes situations, able to make tough calls decisively and serve as a steady, trusted right hand to department leadership
  • Experience with, or a strong interest in, applying AI tools to improve marketing efficiency and effectiveness
  • Flexible schedule with ability to work evenings and weekends as required, and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
