Job description

Shipping Coordinator

1st shift 7am-4pm PM Comp: $20.00/hr

As the 1st Shift Shipping Coordinator, you are the final point of quality and logistics control before our products reach the customer. You will lead the evening shipping operations, specializing in high-volume outbound logistics using UPS WorldShip and FedEx Ship Manager. This role is data-driven and physical, requiring you to accurately weigh inventory, calculate dimensional weights, and manage real-time scheduling to ensure every carrier pickup is maximized for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Whats In It For You?

  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy your mornings and avoid the standard 9-to-5 grind with a consistent 2nd-shift schedule.
  • Skill Mastery: Become an expert in industry-standard logistics software (UPS/FedEx/ERP systems).
  • High-Impact Role: Play a pivotal part in the production cycle by ensuring day-of orders are processed and out the door.
  • Professional Growth: Opportunity to move into Lead or Supervisory roles within our expanding logistics department.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Online Shipping Management: Process all outbound small-parcel shipments using UPS and FedEx online portals, ensuring correct service levels (Ground, Express, International).
  • Inventory Weighing & Measuring: Accurately weigh finished goods and record dimensions to prevent shipping discrepancies and ensure precise freight billing.
  • Carrier Scheduling: Coordinate with local hubs and drivers to schedule late-evening pickups and manage incoming trailer swaps.
  • Logistics Documentation: Generate and verify essential paperwork, including Bills of Lading (BOL), Packing Slips, and Commercial Invoices for international orders.
  • Inventory Control: Conduct cycle counts and update the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to reflect real-time stock levels after daily shipments.
  • Departmental Synergy: Collaborate with the production team to prioritize "hot" orders and resolve any packaging or labeling errors before dispatch.
  • Reporting: Maintain a daily log of shipping costs, volume, and carrier performance for the morning management review.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Software Proficiency: Strong experience with UPS WorldShip, FedEx Ship Manager, or similar logistics software is highly preferred.
  • Mathematical Accuracy: Sharp basic math skills for calculating shipping weights, postage, and inventory totals.
  • Technical Literacy: Ability to navigate ERP/WMS systems and use handheld barcode scanners and digital scales.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to stand for long periods and safely lift/move packages up to 50 lbs.
  • Organizational Prowess: Excellence in multitasking; able to manage multiple carrier deadlines simultaneously under pressure.
  • Communication: Clear verbal and written skills for interacting with drivers, warehouse staff, and customer service.
  • Detail-Oriented: A "zero-error" mindset when verifying shipping labels against customer purchase orders.
  • Reliability: Proven track record of punctuality and attendance, especially for critical 2nd-shift handoffs.

Compensation & Benefits: Competitive Pay: Compensation is determined by candidate experience, education, certifications, and specific job-related skills. Comprehensive Benefits: Includes premium health insurance (medical, dental, vision) and eligibility for an incentive recognition bonus program. Access to training and development to expand your technical certifications.
