Pay Information:
Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms.
External Hires: Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based on relevant experience.
Lab Assistant 1 starts at $22.40 per hour.
Lab Assistant 2 starts at $24.69 per hour.
Please note: In lieu of fringe benefits, Casual employees receive a $2.00 per hour differential in addition to their hourly rate of pay.
Job Summary:
Lab Assistant 1:
The Laboratory Assistant 1 performs basic, routine support duties in the laboratory under close supervision. Responsibilities include specimen collection, labeling, data entry, and transporting samples. This role is designed for individuals new to laboratory services, with a focus on learning protocols and safety procedures.
Lab Assistant 2:
The Laboratory Assistant 2 performs a broad range of specimen processing, data verification, and laboratory support functions with minimal supervision. The role requires demonstrated competency in phlebotomy, specimen handling, and laboratory information systems. This level assists with troubleshooting routine issues, trains new staff, and ensures quality and compliance in day-to-day tasks.
Minimum Qualifications for the Job:
Lab Assistant 1:
  • Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Experience: None
    • Preferred Experience: Previous phlebotomy experience
  • Certification(s): None
  • License(s): None
Lab Assistant 2:
  • Education: High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a medical office/facility performing specimen retrieval, processing, and/or analysis.
    • Substitution(s): One (1) year as a Lab Assistant 1 at BRH
    • Preferred Experience: Previous hospital experience
  • Certification(s): BLS
  • License(s): None
