Responsibilities

The Data Integrity Specialist (EMPI) supports the services related to the integrity of the integrated electronic health record (EHR). The position performs tasks to maintain the accuracy of the Enterprise Master Patient Index (EMPI). The position also monitors Master Patient Index correction requests timely and implements actions to perform corrections as necessary to ensure accuracy of the integrated EHR. Notification of correction requests will be identified utilizing the combine work queue, reporting tools, company email and phone notification. The Data Integrity MPI Specialist actively participates in the migration planning, prepping, and testing of other electronic health records into Cerner or applicable EHR systems.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

       Using various research methodologies and MPI application reviews, and consolidates patient records with the MPI.

       Responsible for making decisions based on documentation to determine to whom clinical and demographic information belongs to.

       Evaluates the demographic indicators associated with each occasion of service to determine if it is to be associated with an existing MPI number or if a new MPI number needs to be created.

       Manages the correction of inaccurate and overlapped data.

       Problem solves with internal and external customers.

       MPI Cleanup Coordination and management.

       Maintains a high performance work environment characterized by positive relationships, empowerment, and a strong team environment.

       Provides ongoing education and feedback to patient registration areas regarding the generation of duplicate records.

       Performs a variety of monitoring functions related to the processing of medical records.

       Promotes communication intra- and inter-departmentally to assure satisfactory workflow and services.

       Notifies all downstream departments/systems of data that needs to be corrected, as appropriate.

       Works Cerner Match Queue daily.

       Member of Health Data Team

       Responsible for compilation of monthly statistics.

       Follows up on all tasks necessary to complete corrections.

       Actively participates in the migration planning, prepping, and testing of other electronic health records into Cerner.

       Master Patient Index correction requests will be identified and corrected utilizing the combine work queue, reporting tools, company email and phone notification.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:

  • Two (2) years' experience in an acute care hospital, chart abstraction, and/or other regulatory review, medical record or Quality Department in a professional capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in QCI concepts tools and techniques.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in excel, power point, etc.
  • KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED:

  • Masters Prepared.
  • Three years' experience in a professional capacity in an acute care medical record, quality department or document scanning and/or imaging operation
