The Opportunity

As a Data & AI Governance & Ethics Lead, you will provide governance, quality, integrity and timeliness of operational data for the Association. You will monitor the use of data to ensure careful control and effective use to achieve Association objectives while leading cross-functional teams in the development of information and data governance initiatives. You will monitor and interpret emerging AI regulations, legislation, regulatory guidance, and industry standards, including state-level AI laws, and other requirements impacting the use and deployment of AI.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, or Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

What you'll do:

  • Use advanced data management domain knowledge of people, process, technologies, audit and risk in the context of the business, to drive adherence to information/data management governance activities, projects and approaches that are compliant with established policies and standards. Influences/drives business awareness of information/data governance through work activities, consulting, and various communication methods for business, technology, security, legal, risk, and compliance partners.

  • Author and/or be a key contributor to information governance guidelines, principles, policies, and standards for information / data stewards, technology execution teams, and stakeholders.

  • Lead the development of information governance oversight processes, measurement approach and enforces adherence to information management policies, standards and capabilities through audits, peer reviews, and monitoring of KRIs and KPIs.

  • Influence, drive and support development of multi-year roadmap and implementation plans for information governance initiatives.

  • Apply expert knowledge of various lines of the business, channels, and their applications and processes to drive recommendations and satisfy regulatory and internal requirements related to information governance and data management.

  • Create information governance training content derived from internal and regulatory requirements, industry best practices and establish learning objectives.

  • Prepare and presents formal findings and recommendations in various formats to all levels of the organization and across the Association.

  • Enable success of USAA information governance discipline best practices by ensuring their inclusion within recommendations for information governance solutions.

  • Be sought as Information Governance expert to facilitate career path, best practices, and mentoring and grow of maturity of the Information Governance community.

  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Architecture, Information Management, Information Studies, Information Technology, Risk, Audit or related technical field; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience; and

  • 8+ years of experience in Information or Data related practices to include: information governance, information management, risk, audit, information architecture, IT, analysis and reporting; OR Advanced degree in Information Architecture, Information Management, Information Studies, Risk, Audit, Information Technology or a related technical field with 6+ years of experience in Information or Data related practices as noted above.

  • 2+ years of strong knowledge and demonstrated ability to create and evolve Data Development and Data Engineering processes.

  • 2+ years operational knowledge of risk management and mitigation frameworks.

  • Experience in developing Data Governance and Data Management Strategy, road maps.

  • Expert knowledge of industry information/data governance best practices.

  • Experience in AI governance, model risk management, data governance, and compliance.

  • Demonstrated understanding of the AI regulatory and legislative landscape, including emerging federal and state-level AI laws, regulations, and regulatory guidance.

  • Understanding of the data privacy implications associated with AI, including requirements and considerations related to GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, and other applicable privacy regulations.

What sets you apart:

  • Certified AI Governance Professional (AIGP), Information Management Professional (CIMP), Information Governance Professional (IGP), Certified Information Professional or equivalent industry certification.

  • Financial services, insurance, banking, or other highly regulated industry experience.

  • CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) certification preferred.

  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner.

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $143,320 - $273,930.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
