Job description

Snelling is seeking a talented Manufacturing Product Designer to join a diverse team to support production and manufacturing in the Trussville area. As a Product Designer you will design, develop or redesign new or existing products for construction machinery. You will be responsible for developing product designs and technical/instructional documentation with minimum supervision.

Responsibilities for Product Designer will include but not be limited to the following:
  • Develop designs for products, and technical/instructional documentation with minimum supervision.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates own work.
  • Collects, reads, interprets, and uses related reference documents and drawings prepared by other disciplines, vendors, or outside sources.
  • Ensures compliance with approved design standards to provide quality designs, safety, manufacturability, reliable operation, and operating convenience.
  • Reviews and checks calculations, design models, drawings and design documents for quality, accuracy, neatness, functionality, and satisfactory completion.
  • Frequent contact and interaction with customers, vendor's representatives, assembly/shop personnel, peers, and other discipline employees.
  • Assists others with assembling bid, approval, and manufacturing drawing packages.
Using engineering and design computer software to complete assigned work:
  • Provide drawings for own designs and produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by other Designers.
  • Research design options.
  • Review shop drawings.
  • Research relevant code issues.
Typical duties for Product Designer will the preparation and/or modification of the following:
  • Drawings and layouts.
  • Specifications.
  • Technical calculations.
  • Charts and graphs for design data.
  • Cost estimates and bills of materials.
  • Data entry.
  • New product design.
  • Current product improvement.
Education/Experience:
  • Associate degree in engineering or CAD discipline.
Required Design Software Skill/Experience:
  • 3D design software experience required. PTC Creo with detail drawing, large assemblies, part generation, sheet metal, and piping design models are preferred; 2 years of experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PDM data management with 2 yearsโ€™ experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Additional Skills & Experience a Plus:
  • AutoCAD - Line drawings, electrical and hydraulic schematics.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry and regulatory standards and codes.
  • Experience in working with multiple discipline projects.
