Job description

Position Summary:

The Scale Operator/Logistics Assistant is responsible for accurately weighing and recording all inbound and outbound materials at our port terminal. This role is essential to maintaining efficient terminal operations, accurate documentation, and safe material flow. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, dependable, and comfortable working in a fastโ€‘paced industrial environment with frequent interaction with truck drivers, dispatchers, and terminal staff. A typical work schedule for this role is Monday-Friday, 5:30am to 4pm.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operate the terminalโ€™s certified truck scale to weigh inbound and outbound vehicles accurately.
  • Record gross, tare, and net weights, along with product, customer, and shipment details.
  • Prepare, process, and distribute scale tickets, bills of lading, and related shipping documents.
  • Ensure all weighing and documentation activities follow applicable state and federal regulations and company procedures.
  • Communicate with loaders, dispatchers, and drivers to coordinate traffic flow and resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain organized and accurate daily scale records, reports, and transaction logs.
  • Support inventory tracking by monitoring material movement, volumes, and shipments.
  • Conduct daily inspections of scale operations to confirm proper function and report maintenance or accuracy concerns.
  • Follow all company safety policies, including PPE usage and site traffic control procedures.
  • Provide professional and courteous customer service to drivers and site visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and recordkeeping.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a busy environment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and organized.

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience as a Scale Operator, Scale House Operator, or in logistics, dispatch, or terminal operations.
  • Familiarity with truck scales, scale ticketing software, or transportation/logistics systems.
  • General knowledge of DOT weight regulations and bulk material handling.
  • OSHA 10 certification.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in field environments.
  • Required use of PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steelโ€‘toe boots) in operational areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift or carry up to 40 lbs.

Work Environment:

  • Job performed in an air-conditioned scale house located in active marine terminal operations.
