General Duties
Under the direction of the Sanitation Supervisor, the Sanitarian performs equipment disassembly and assembly, sanitation, as well as various cleaning and janitorial activities. They may be called upon to do finisher work, as prescribed in our labor agreement.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCITONS
  • SAFETY The sanitarian must follow all rules, guidelines, and regulations as they relate to safe work practices and cleaning.
  • SANITATION & HOUSEKEEPING The Sanitarian performs cleaning and housekeeping duties as directed by the Sanitation Supervisor.
  • FOOD SAFETY The Sanitarian must ensure that any sanitation process shall not compromise with Food Safety, Quality & Legality.
  • ATTENDANCE Since manufacturing requires a number of individuals to work together at the same time, attendance and punctuality are essential to this position. Prospective employees must be able to be here on time, at the start of the shift and stay through the end of the shift.

Requirements
PHYSICAL EFFORT
โ€ข A Sanitarian is required to be on his/her feet and to move about the production floor for 12 hours a day.
โ€ข This position requires that one be able to perform the following activities: bend at the waist, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, full range of reaching away from the body, standing, walking, grasping objects with hands and fingers, and an acute tactile sense.
โ€ข The position also requires several repetitive motions during the production/and or packaging of certain products.
โ€ข The position requires that one be able to lift 50-pound objects, push and pull items weighing several hundred pounds. This position requires that a Sanitarian be able to work comfortably in an environment that has flour dust, but well below OSHA limits.
MENTAL ABILITY
โ€ข This position requires that an individual have enough visual acuity to read labels on cartons and ingredients; as well as be able to read and understand scales, computer terminals and other controlling devices.
โ€ข Sanitarians are also required to enter some data into various computer applications, as well as completing on-line sanitation reports.
โ€ข This position requires the ability to effectively communicate sanitation-related issues to Sanitation Supervisor.
โ€ข People holding this position must be able to read directions and follow them accordingly.
โ€ข They must also be able comprehend and execute oral direction.
โ€ข A sanitarian must be able to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide.
โ€ข As new people are hired, sanitarians that have learned the job functions well may be called upon to assist in training of new employees.
ACCOUNTABILITY & EFFECTIVENESS
A sanitarian is supervised directly by the Sanitation Supervisor. There are several measures used by the company to judge the performance of a Sanitarian. Quality is our highest priority at Mel-O-Cream; accordingly, there must be accuracy and neatness to all work. Some measures of this include an attention to detail in performing sanitation tasks, precise entries on all reporting documents or data entry functions. Safe work practices and the following or proper procedures is also a huge measure of proper job performance.
Attentiveness is also needed in taking breaks and reporting for work. While no one is telling the sanitarians when their break is over or exactly at what moment to begin work, a sanitarian is expected to be cognizant of when to commence and cease these activities. Collectively, these are several items, which will be taken into account in evaluating the performance of a Sanitarian.
