Title: College Store Clerk - On Call
Position Purpose:
The College Store Clerk is responsible for cash register duties, customer service, stocking, and merchandising of the College Store. This position will include some maintenance and fulfillment of our online store.
Job Duties:
  • Assists in maintaining stock inventory, notating low stock items for reorder and items in need of elimination.
  • Assists customers with purchases, registering sales in the store and online.
  • Maintains a high level of customer service in accordance with the College Store and Bates College philosophy.
  • Acquires product knowledge of items sold and needs of the college store.
  • Uses computer program to process financial aid and department charges while maintaining confidentiality and security of protected student information in accordance with FERPA regulations.
  • Backs up the Office Coordinator with creating purchase orders and daily journal entries.
  • Receives and stocks a variety of merchandise for resale and monitors initial mark-on and cost of goods sold, including invoice/packing list data entry, quality control inspection, inventory control, and database entry and maintenance.
  • Maintains buying and inventory levels for departments as designated in the College Store.
  • Backs up the eCommerce Specialist in tasks such as order fulfillment, customer communication, and special order creation. -

Minimum Qualifications:
Education
• High school graduate or GED equivalent required.
• Associates degree or equivalent education and experience preferred.
Experience
• 1 - 3 years of customer service and/or retail experience.
• Previous experience cashiering; retail experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge
• Impeccable organizational (time, task, project management) skills.
• Excellent communication (written, verbal and presentation) skills.
• Customer Service: ability to provide service that consistently meets or exceeds the needs of web customers, colleagues, and the college community.
• Strong business aptitude.
• Basic clerical skills, including data entry and filing.
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
• Strong interpersonal skills with ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships. Must be flexible, collaborative and have a positive attitude.
