Job description

As a member of the interdisciplinary team within the Medical Day Care and the Boris Clinic, the Sub-Cutaneous Immunoglobulin Registered Nurse (SCIg RN) will coordinate the Ontario Immunoglobulin Treatment Program (ONIT).  Specifically, the SCIg RN will coordinate patient follow-up, training sessions and vaccination schedules; will support patients by educating patients about treatment options, creating individual treatment plans, training all patients on SCIg, monitoring patients on SCIg, answering questions and assisting patients with any challenges associated with treatment; and will coordinate aspects of the ONIT program at HHS such as supporting SCIg policy and procedure review and coordinating and tracking SCIg utilization.  In addition, the SCIg RN will also participate in program promotion at HHS and research based activities to evaluate the program, including data entry in a SCIg registry.  The SCIg RN will be required to work collaboratively with the team in the Medical Day Care as well as with interdisciplinary teams who will be referring patients and to identify patients who should be considered to be switched from IVIg to SCIg.

1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse (RN).
2. Current BCLS certification.
3. Minimum 2 years (within the past 4 years) experience in treating and a demonstrated knowledge of the disease processes of adult patients with chronic illness, including with immunodeficiency diseases.
4. Minimum of 1 year experience (within the last 2 years) of nursing in an ambulatory care setting.
5. Experience and skill in blood product and biological product administration, advanced vascular access therapy skills, IV starts and the care of central lines.
6. Experience and skill in patient assessment, education, management and support of patients with chronic complex disease, including knowledge of self-management tools.
7. Demonstrated excellence in critical thinking and problem solving.
8. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) and role modeling of HHS Values and Code of Conduct.
9. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, and ability to be self directed.
10. Demonstrated leadership experience within a multidisciplinary team.
11. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively with a broad multidisciplinary team, and build health care partnerships.
12. Demonstrated experience and interest in participating in clinical research studies.
