College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
This Research Assistant will perform translational/clinical research including screening, recruitment, testing of human research subjects and basic lab duties. The RA will be responsible for non-invasive testing, basic lab procedures, and data management (accurate data entry, retrieval and quality control). Work is performed under close supervision.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Subject recruitment and screening; help with timely and effective recruitment of human subjects for laboratory research projects (e.g. developing new recruitment resources, advertising, performing telephone screenings, etc.); provide quality control of phone screenings and scheduling; make reminder calls to subjects for testing at the Georgia Prevention Institute.
This Research Assistant will perform translational/clinical research including both testing of human research subjects and basic lab duties. The RA will be responsible for non-invasive physiological testing of research subjects, basic lab procedures, and data management (accurate, retrieval and quality control). Work performed under close supervision.
Including but not limited: Subject consent, testing, etc.; Data entry, management, etc.; Basic lab processes, such as plasma/serum isolation, PBMC extraction, etc.; Blood, saliva, urine, stool sample handling, etc.
Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in a research or clinical setting.
OR
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology, social sciences, natural sciences, life, health care, or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years' experience in a research or clinical area.
Preferred Qualifications
Basic lab experience.

SKILLS
The Research Assistant's job duties include subject screening, recruitment and testing. The RA should have good communication skills so that he/she can clearly explain the project to the participants and answer questions. The RA should have basic lab working experience.
Interpersonal Skills: Interaction with supervisor, other research personnel, and lab manager while performing biological testing in compliance with OSHA standards and IRB protocols.

Pay Band: B5
Salary Range: $17.88/hourly - $19.23/hourly
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position.
