Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a mid-level experienced Quality Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will report to the Safety & Mission Assurance Manager and perform quality-engineering activities in support of meeting program requirements. Duties will include tasks such as reviewing and approving drawing packages, acting as a witness for acceptance tests, interpreting contractual requirements, coordinating specifications for the purchase of goods and services, performing final inspections on deliverable hardware, preparing end-item data package documentation, identifying and implementing process improvements, and/or leading efforts to address and resolve nonconforming product issues. The selected candidate will also serve as a trusted technical partner to software engineers, systems engineers, program managers, and customers. The selected candidate will champion software quality practices, provide guidance to development teams, and establish Software Quality Assurance as a trusted engineering partner across SDL.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates, processes, and dispositions nonconforming products and anomalies
  • Reviews and approves engineering drawings, plans, and procedures
  • Interfaces with subcontractors and customers to resolve quality problems
  • Performs first article, in-process, and final inspections to ensure adherence to applicable standards
  • Performs audits on internal and subcontractor procedures
  • Creates and reviews customer and subcontract deliverables
  • Completes and manages end item technical data packages
  • Actively represents quality engineering during critical design and test readiness reviews
  • Partners with software development teams to apply SDL software engineering processes and software quality practices throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Participates in software planning, lifecycle reviews, verification activities, and quality assessments to identify and reduce software quality risks
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or business operation field
  • At least 5 years of quality assurance or quality engineering experience
  • Knowledge of the ISO9001 or AS9100D Quality System Standards
  • Ability to read two dimensional drawings and interpret applicable drawing notes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to work well independently or on a team
  • Ability to facilitate and promote the use of problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working directly with software development teams, software configuration management, or requirements traceability.
  • Understanding of modern software development lifecycles and software quality principles.
  • Knowledge and/or hands-on experience in working with electronics and electronic circuits
  • Quality Assurance experience in a research and development environment, aerospace and defense, and/or comparable industry
  • Active security clearance
