What is data engineering?

A Data Engineering job involves designing, building, and maintaining the infrastructure that enables efficient data collection, storage, and processing. Data Engineers develop pipelines to transform raw data into usable formats for analytics and machine learning. They work with databases, big data technologies, and cloud platforms to ensure data is accessible and reliable. Their role is crucial for organizations to make data-driven decisions and optimize business processes.

What does a data engineer do?

Data Engineers regularly design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to support analytics and business intelligence teams. Their daily tasks often involve working with large datasets, optimizing data storage, ensuring data integrity, and troubleshooting data-related issues. Collaboration with data scientists, analysts, and software engineers is common to align on data requirements and improve workflows. You may also participate in regular code reviews and contribute to the ongoing improvement of data infrastructure. This role is ideal for problem-solvers who enjoy working with both code and complex systems in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a data engineer?

To thrive in Data Engineering, you need a solid background in programming (such as Python, Java, or Scala), data modeling, and database management, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with ETL tools, cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, big data frameworks (e.g., Hadoop, Spark), and relevant certifications is highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams are key soft skills for this role. These attributes are crucial for designing robust data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and enabling organizations to make data-driven decisions efficiently.

Are data engineers still in demand?

Data engineers are currently in high demand due to the increasing reliance on data-driven decision making and the growth of big data technologies. They typically need skills in SQL, cloud platforms, and tools like Apache Spark or Hadoop, and job opportunities are expected to remain strong as organizations continue to prioritize data infrastructure.

Job Description Senior Data Engineer (Snowflake) | Enterprise Data & Cloud Integration Are you passionate about building modern, scalable data platforms that power enterprise decision-making. We're partnering with a well-established financial services organization to hire an experienced Senior Data Engineer who thrives in designing cloud-based data solutions and enjoys solving complex integration challenges. This is an opportunity to play a key role in transforming enterprise data architecture while working with modern cloud technologies in a collaborative, forward-thinking environment.

What You'll Be Doing As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll design, build, and optimize enterprise data solutions that enable secure, reliable, and high-performing data across the organization. You'll partner closely with architects, developers, and business stakeholders to create scalable pipelines and integrations that support critical business initiatives. Key responsibilities include: Design and develop scalable data pipelines and ELT/ETL solutions using Snowflake.

Build and maintain data transformations using dbt, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Data Lake (ADL), or similar technologies. Integrate enterprise systems using technologies such as REST APIs, Kafka, MuleSoft, and cloud-based data platforms. Translate business and technical requirements into scalable data models and engineering solutions.

Implement best practices around data quality, governance, security, and performance. Monitor and optimize data pipelines for reliability, scalability, and cost efficiency. Research and recommend emerging technologies that improve enterprise data capabilities.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact data solutions. What We're Looking For We're seeking a hands-on engineer who enjoys building modern cloud data platforms while also thinking strategically about architecture and long-term scalability. Qualifications include: 8+ years of experience in software or data engineering.

Strong expertise with Snowflake, SQL, and dbt. Experience building enterprise data pipelines and ELT/ETL solutions. Experience with Azure technologies such as ADF and Azure Data Lake, or comparable cloud platforms.

Experience integrating enterprise systems through APIs, Kafka, MuleSoft, or similar technologies. Strong understanding of data modeling, data governance, and performance optimization. Excellent communication and collaboration skills with both technical and business stakeholders.

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field preferred. Preferred Qualifications Snowflake certifications. Experience within the Financial Services or Life Insurance industry.

Why This Opportunity. Work on large-scale enterprise data initiatives. Modern cloud technologies and architecture.

High-impact role with visibility across the organization. Collaborative team that values innovation and continuous improvement. Opportunity to influence technical direction while remaining hands-on.

If you're looking for your next opportunity to build scalable cloud data solutions and make a meaningful impact within a stable, technology-focused organization, we'd love to hear from you.
