Mechanical Design / Drafter – Test Equipment

Location: Tucson, AZ

Work Type: Onsite

Clearance: U.S. Citizenship required; Secret clearance required or obtainable

Role Summary

We are seeking a Mechanical Design / Drafter to support mechanical test equipment, fixtures, assemblies, and related hardware used in aerospace and defense environments.

This role is responsible for creating and maintaining 2D drawings, 3D CAD models, technical data packages, and engineering documentation that support design, manufacturing, production, and test activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and revise 2D drawings, 3D models, assemblies, and mechanical layouts.
  • Develop detailed mechanical drawings with proper dimensions, tolerances, notes, and manufacturing details.
  • Support technical data packages, drawing packages, and engineering documentation updates.
  • Update drawings and models based on engineering changes, design reviews, and configuration updates.
  • Apply CAD modeling standards and drafting best practices to ensure clear, accurate, and manufacturable designs.
  • Work with engineering teams to clarify design intent and improve drawing quality.
  • Support mechanical design for test fixtures, interface hardware, equipment layouts, packaging, and support structures.
  • Review drawings and models for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Support documentation through design, review, release, and revision cycles.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Drafting, Design Technology, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • 2+ years of mechanical design, CAD drafting, product documentation, or engineering support experience.
  • Experience creating and revising mechanical drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as Creo, Pro/E, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
  • Experience developing dimensioned detail drawings, assemblies, and design documentation.
  • Familiarity with drawing standards, manufacturing documentation, and technical data packages.
  • Experience maintaining drawings through review cycles, engineering changes, and revision updates.
  • Understanding of CAD modeling best practices and controlled design revisions.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • Creo / ProE experience.
  • Familiarity with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, or tolerance analysis.
  • Experience with mechanical test equipment, fixtures, tooling, lab hardware, or production-support hardware.
  • Exposure to mechanical packaging, electronic packaging, chassis design, enclosures, or equipment layouts.
  • Experience creating full drawing packages or technical data packages.
  • Familiarity with configuration management, engineering change processes, or document control.
  • Exposure to model-based design, model-based definition, or model-based engineering.
  • Internship, co-op, or hands-on project experience in mechanical design, drafting, CAD modeling, or production support.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, production, test, or assembly teams.
