Job description

Position Description & Qualifications Looking for a Data Engineer opportunity at a place you can make a difference every day? Serco is seeking a Data Engineer to join our growing team of diverse professionals in the Central Florida Research Park near the University of Central Florida. The selected candidate will manage Modeling and Simulation (M&S) authoritative data services and provide requirements analysis for the Air Force Agency for Modeling and Simulation on the Air Force Modeling and Simulation Support Services (AFMS3) 3.0 contract. The Serco Data Engineer will assist Government program managers with obtaining data and models from the authoritative sources and coordinating activities with authoritative source providers to ensure required resources are available to satisfy worldwide AF Simulation Center requirements with considerations for cost, schedule, and performance. Additionally, the Data Manager will regularly revisit all threat model requirements to ensure that threat characterizations remain representative of current intelligence assessments. The ideal candidate brings a balance of technical understanding and operational awareness, with experience supporting models for simulation environments, data standards, military parametric data repositories, and stakeholder coordination. This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain/maintain/transfer an active U.S. Department of War (DoW) Secret security clearance. In this role, you will: * Create and maintain a training data repository that is visible, accessible, interoperable, trusted, secure, and reusable across the training community with particular focus on the AF Training Simulations Centers in the US, Germany and Korea. * Identify sources of unclassified parametric data for Air assets, preferably FDO (Foreign Discloser Officer) approved, to populate and maintain the repository, tracking data linage * Coordinate with Government, contractor, and stakeholder representatives to identify required data for tactical training, integrate data into participating system environments, and support joint/coalition interoperability initiatives * Provide technical expertise for data integration, analytics, governance, and data modernization efforts that enhance operational training and readiness capabilities * Support the development, governance, testing, and provision of parametric datasets and data services in alignment with the DoD Data Strategy, DAF Data Fabric initiatives, DAF I-Plan, and AFAMS Data Concept Plan. * Ensure data solutions leverage approved enterprise big data platform, Envision, and comply with Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT) requirements. To be successful in this role, you will have: * A Bachelor's degree (in technical area like engineering, software development or mathematics) with a minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in data engineering, data management, modeling and simulation, systems engineering, or related technical disciplines. * OR a Master's Degree with a minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience . * The ability to obtain a US Department of War (DoW) Secret Security clearance. * US Citizenship. * Stakeholder management in DoD/USAF environments. * Big data platforms (Envision, VAULT, ELICSAR, Unified Data Library, SIGNUS, or equivalent). * Data science, analytics, and data engineering principles. * Data integration, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load)/ELT (Extract, Load, Tranform) processes, and API-based data services. * Data modeling, metadata management, and data cataloging. * Python, SQL, and data analytics toolsets. * Enterprise data governance and data management frameworks. * Information assurance, cybersecurity, and secure data-sharing practices. * Strong written and verbal communication skills across technical and operational audiences. * Knowledge of military training, readiness, and M&S ecosystems. * Ability to operate in a cross-functional, stakeholder-heavy environment. * Must be able to work on-site at the Air Force Agency of Modeling and Simulation facility just outside the Naval Support Activity Orlando. * The ability to travel up to 10%. Additional desired experience and skills: * DoD Data Strategy and DAF Data Fabric implementation experience, including application of current DoD and DAF Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) policies and standards. * Authoritative Source of Truth (ASoT) identification and implementation. * Cloud and hybrid data architectures. * Data quality assessment, validation, and testing methodologies. * Joint and coalition interoperability standards and data exchange. * Experience supporting Air Force, Joint and Coalition Synthetic, Live and Blended training exercises. * Experience supporting AFAMS, USAF training ranges, or Training Simulation Centers. * Familiarity with the tenets of Multi-Domain Operations. * Experience working with Program Offices, Test Organizations, or Engineering Teams. * Prior experience serving in a "bridge" role between operations and technical teams. * Experience with DoD digital engineering and data modernization initiatives. * Agile project management and cross-functional team leadership. * Familiarity with M&S standards and distributed training environments. * Familiarity with simulation protocols and architectures (DIS, HLA, TENA, or similar). * Experience supporting Distributed Mission Operations (DMO), Operational Test and Training Infrastructures (OTTI), Joint Simulation Environment (JSE). Live, Virtual Constructive (LVC) or distributed simulation environments. * Experience in DoD simulation, training, and M&S systems integration. * Strong understanding of interoperability concepts and challenges in multi-system. * Environment participating in or supporting standards development or working groups. * Active Top Secret clearance.
