LMI is seeking a Data Scientist toย assistย with Army data model, pipeline, and visualizationย development.ย Thisย Data Scientist will createย data modelsย working from mock visualizations and raw data inputs; leverage python,ย PySpark, Foundry, and code repositories to develop an architecture plan;ย extract, transform, and load data into Vantage; andย useย Vantageย workshopsย to develop visualizations. Active Secret clearance required.

Location: Open to Remote. Local preferred at client site in Crystal City VA or Aberdeen MD.

Responsibilities

  • Dataย Engineering:ย Extract, transform, and load dataย using bigย dataย platforms likeย Palantirย Foundry, loadingย data intoย dataย visualizations, transformingย dataย usingย pythonย andย low codeย dataย pipelineย buildingย tools.ย 
  • Workflowย Development: Build low-code no-code applications that allowย end usersย to see real-time readiness dashboards.ย 
  • Data Integration: Automateย and cleanย the ingestion of data from legacy systems soย it'sย useful for decision-making.ย 
  • Predictive Analytics: Create models to forecast equipment failures, personnel shortages, or budget overruns.ย 
  • PI Planning:ย Help with feature writing, task decomposition, acceptance criteria, user stories, and processes forย extracting dependencies from descriptive models.ย 
  • Ad-Hoc Reporting: Quickly answer critical information requirementsย by pulling data across different domains,ย ability to gatherย customerย requirements andย deliver aย comprehensiveย statisticalย analysis toย answerย theirย questions.ย ย 

General Responsibilities:ย 

  • Support project management over data activities to ensureย timelyย delivery in a reactive and agile environment.ย 
  • Engage technical and functional program SMEs, and key data stakeholders to understand business processes, analytical requirements, key data elements, data protection guidelines, etc.ย 
  • Define and develop techniques to integrate,ย consolidate, and structure data forย analytical use.ย 
  • Createย dataย pipelines inย python,ย going from raw dataย toย dataย products needed forย visualization or otherย analyticsย products.ย ย 
  • Understand and analyze complex and organization-specific datasets.ย 
  • Transform data and analysis into informative visualizations and interactive dashboards using open-source and commercially available visualization and dashboard tools.ย 
  • Propose alternative designs and processes to manageย various typesย of data using both standard and custom tables and fields.ย 
  • Provide recommendations for improvements in data strategies to include changes to governance, stewardship, integration, and standardization.ย 
Qualifications

Qualifications:ย ย 

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering, or other related business or quantitative disciplineย preferred. Relevant experience considered in lieu of a degree.ย 
  • Active DoD Secret clearanceย required. Must have at a minimum, an Interim Secret Clearance.ย 
  • 10ย yearsย ofย experienceย with Python, and strong experience withย PySparkย or similar big data libraries.ย 
  • Knowledge of Army Vantageย andย data environment standardization.ย 
  • Experience working with data analysis tools including object-oriented programming (Python,ย Java,ย SQL,ย TypeScript),ย computationalย analysis tools (R, MATLAB), and associated data science libraries (scikit-learn).ย 
  • Experience developing and implementing statistical, machine learning, and heuristic techniques to create descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analyticsย as well as to develop statistical tests to make data-driven recommendations and decisionsย 
  • Experience creating meaningful data visualizations and interactive dashboards using platforms such as Tableau, Qlik, Power BI,ย RShiny,ย plotly, or d3.js to communicate findings and relate them back to how insights create business impactย 
  • Experienceย with dataย modeling,ย buildingย "objects" (e.g., "Soldier," "Tank," "Unit") and defining how they relate to one another in theย Foundryย environment.ย 
  • Strong background in DevOps and Software Engineering, including GitLab CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code,ย and implementing Quality Assurance practices like Test-Driven Development (TDD) and unit testing (Pytest).ย 
  • Proven ability to design and scale Medallion Lakehouse Architectures, implement Data Mesh concepts, andย utilizeย Dimensional Modeling (Star Schemas) on cloud platforms like Databricks or DoDย Advana.ย 
  • Innovative problem solving and root cause identification skills.ย 
  • Superior communication skills, both oral and written.ย 
  • Able to work effectively at all levels of an organization.ย 
  • Must be a team player and able to work with and through others.ย 
  • Ability to influence and align others and move toward a common vision or goal.ย 
  • Federal government agency experienceย requiredย 

Desired:ย 

  • Master's degree (preferred) in data science, mathematics, statistics, economics, computer science, engineering, or other related business or quantitative discipline.ย 
  • Experience with authoritative data sources, including IPPS-A / MILPDS, GCSS-Army, GFEBS, DTMS / MEDPROS.ย 
  • Experience with Army Vantageย ย 
  • Experienceย withย effortsย focused onย understandingย interdependencies ofย programsย within anย organization.ย ย 

Travel: Minimal, less than 10%ย

Target salary range: $111,426 - $150,000
