How do data engineer data analysts typically collaborate with data scientists and business stakeholders?

Data Engineer Data Analysts play a crucial role in bridging the technical and analytical needs of an organization. They work closely with data scientists by preparing, cleaning, and structuring large datasets to enable advanced analytics and modeling. Additionally, they collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements, translate business questions into technical solutions, and deliver actionable insights. Effective communication and teamwork are essential, as the role often involves facilitating data access, ensuring data quality, and aligning data projects with business objectives.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data engineer data analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Engineer/Data Analyst, you need strong analytical and statistical skills, proficiency in programming languages like Python or SQL, and typically a degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Job description

Description:

We are looking to hire a Data Solutions Analyst to join our Data Informatics team. This role goes beyond traditional reporting and analysis — it is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining end-to-end data solutions that power decision-making across Operations, call centers, and clients. The ideal candidate combines strong ETL and data integration fundamentals with the ability to translate business needs into automated, scalable, and reliable data products.

As a Data Solutions Analyst, you will architect and own the data pipelines, automation workflows, and reporting infrastructure that the business relies on. Your responsibilities will span data integration, workflow automation, semantic modeling, and application development — moving the organization away from manual, ad-hoc processes and toward automated, governed, and scalable data solutions.

Who we are: Best Foot Forward supports health care organizations — primarily government insurance health plans — to locate, educate, and engage targeted individuals.

Requirements:

Job Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain end-to-end ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data solutions, including automated SQL reporting, Power Automate workflows, Microsoft Fabric Dataflows, and API ingestion through Fabric Notebooks.

• Extract, transform, and load data from multiple source systems into clean, reliable structures that support accurate reporting and analysis.

• Transition manual, Excel-based reporting processes into fully automated Power BI reports and dashboards, improving accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.

• Integrate data from multiple source systems (e.g., Paylocity, TCN, ACE) into unified, governed data models that answer key business questions and support decision-making.

• Develop semantic models that provide a reliable, reusable foundation for enterprise reporting and self-service analytics.

• Build company-wide interactive Power BI reports and dashboards that enable teams to track performance, KPIs, and trends, and take informed action.

• Design and develop Power Apps and other applications that streamline business processes, such as bonus and campaign-performance estimation tools, reducing manual calculation and improving transparency.

• Take the lead role in creating and analyzing data reports on Operations and call center activity, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for efficiency gains.

• Build and maintain SQL logic and query blocks to extract, transform, and deliver data to reporting and application layers.

• Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand reporting and data requirements, and design tailored, scalable solutions to meet their needs.

• Partner with programmers, engineers, and department leaders to identify process improvement opportunities, propose system and data architecture changes, and define data governance strategies.

• Ensure the accuracy, completeness, security, and timeliness of all data solutions, reports, and integrations.

• Provide regular and ad hoc analysis and reporting support for company initiatives and new projects.

Core Competencies

• Technical Ownership — Designs and delivers complete data solutions end-to-end, from source-system integration through to the finished report or application.

• Accountability — Accepts responsibility that results in the anticipation and prevention of problems,  and proactively solves issues inside and outside the department.

• Systems Thinking — Understands how data flows across tools and platforms (Fabric, Power Automate, Power BI, Power Apps) and designs solutions that scale rather than one-off fixes.

• Attention to Detail — Applies a thorough and detailed method of working to ensure data accuracy and integrity across all deliverables.

• Communication — Translates technical concepts into clear, well-organized language for both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Customer Focus — Creates value for internal and external stakeholders by understanding their needs and delivering solutions that meet or exceed expectations.

• Teamwork — Builds constructive relationships with colleagues at all levels and collaborates across teams to achieve organizational objectives.

• Problem Solving — Employs analytical ability and engineering judgment to creatively resolve problems across a variety of technical and business contexts.

• Integrity & Trust — Acts in accordance with the highest standards of ethical conduct and behavior.

Skills and Experience Required

• Proven working experience as a Data Engineer, Data Solutions Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role involving hands-on report and pipeline automation.

• Solid understanding of ETL concepts and best practices, including data extraction, transformation, cleansing, and loading across multiple source systems.

• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric, including Dataflows and Notebooks for API-based data ingestion.

• Strong experience building automation with Power Automate to replace manual, Excel-based processes.

• Minimum of 3 years of advanced Power BI experience, including semantic modeling, DAX, and building enterprise-scale interactive reports.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience developing Power Apps or similar low-code applications to support business workflows.

• Strong SQL skills and knowledge of SQL reporting, including writing and optimizing queries, logic blocks, and reporting solutions to support business reporting and applications.

• Proficient in JavaScript, with the ability to apply it for custom logic within Power Apps, Power Automate, or web-based reporting solutions.

• Working knowledge of Claude Code or similar AI-assisted coding tools to accelerate development, automation, and troubleshooting.

• Technical expertise in data models, database design, data integration, and ETL techniques.

• Experience integrating data from multiple disparate systems into unified models.

• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organize, and interpret significant amounts of information with accuracy and attention to detail.

• Ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions, and technical concepts into terms non-technical stakeholders can understand.

• BS in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Management, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.

• Experience with data governance principles and best practices is a plus.
