Power BI Developer (Azure Databricks / Unity Catalog)

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled Power BI Developer to build and deliver dashboards and reports using data sourced from our CyberDW Azure Databricks Lakehouse. The role will focus on developing stakeholder-specific dashboards by source system, ensuring accurate data representation, consistent metrics, and high-quality visualizations. This is a hands-on development role working closely with data engineering and business teams.

Key Responsibilities

Dashboard Development

  • Design and develop interactive Power BI reports and dashboards
  • Build Cyber Dashboards aligned to individual source systems
  • Implement drill-downs, drill-throughs, slicers, and advanced visualizations

Databricks Integration

  • Connect Power BI to Databricks SQL endpoints / Unity Catalog tables
  • Consume curated Gold-layer datasets for reporting and analytics
  • Support both Import and DirectQuery modes

Data Modeling

  • Develop and maintain Power BI data models (star schema, relationships)
  • Create DAX measures, calculated columns, and KPIs
  • Work with data engineers to ensure optimized datasets for reporting

Data Transformation

  • Use Power Query (M language) to clean, shape, and transform incoming data
  • Validate and reconcile data to ensure accuracy and consistency

Governance & Security

  • Implement row-level security (RLS) for user-based access
  • Ensure dashboards align with enterprise data governance and access control policies

Performance Optimization

  • Optimize report performance through:
    • Efficient DAX calculations
    • Model optimization
    • Dataset tuning

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work with business users and SMEs to understand metric reporting requirements
  • Translate business needs into usable dashboard solutions
  • Provide support for feedback, enhancements, and issue resolution

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Power BI development
  • Strong hands-on experience with:
    • Power BI Desktop and Service
    • DAX, Power Query (M)
    • Data modeling (star schema, relationships)
  • Experience integrating Power BI with Azure Databricks
  • Strong SQL skills and understanding of data transformation concepts
  • Experience implementing row-level security (RLS)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Databricks Lakehouse / Unity Catalog
  • Exposure to financial services or cybersecurity data/reporting
  • Experience building dashboards across multiple data domains/source systems
  • Familiarity with Azure tools (ADF, ADLS, Entra ID)
