With team members around the world and a rich legacy spanning more than 50 years, Versar Global Solutions delivers a broad array of planning, analysis and risk management solutions, project and program management, operations and maintenance services, and information technology applications for environmental management and remediation projects, mission critical facilities and installations, and in support of readiness and contingency operations.

Who You Are:

Versar is seeking an exceedingly detail-oriented technical editor who brings both strong editing capabilities and an interest in supporting environmental and technical work. The successful candidate will serve not only as a quality-focused editor, but also as a collaborative team member capable of supporting technical teams in understanding, developing, and refining project deliverables. This individual will be able to edit for content, compliance, relevance, clarity, and accuracy, while also engaging with technical subject matter related to environmental investigations, remediation, engineering, natural resources, and regulatory documentation.

What You’ll Do:

  • Editing technical and scientific documents, for grammar, spelling, punctuation, acronym use, correct citation of references, logical and meaningful presentation of information, correct style and format, accuracy of graphs, charts, and illustrations, readability, and completeness.
  • Collaborating with multiple project managers and senior technical resources, in coordination with existing technical editing resources, on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Working from templates to write and edit non-technical material such as monthly progress reports and project schedules.
  • Overseeing response to client comments to documents via comment response matrices and provided via tracked changes in Word.
  • Providing document production support (e.g., creation of pdfs).
  • Completing assigned tasks with minimal direct supervision while meeting established priorities and achieving the desired outcome.
  • Taking the initiative to collaborate with team members and other individuals on specific quality-related issues.
  • Supporting technical teams in the development, organization, and refinement of environmental and engineering deliverables, including reports, plans, and regulatory documentation.
  • Interpreting technical data and content to improve clarity, consistency, and overall quality of deliverables.
  • Assisting with compilation and organization of field data, figures, and supporting documentation for inclusion in project reports.
  • Participating in project meetings and collaborating with technical staff to better understand project objectives, scope, and deliverable requirements.
  • Providing support for environmental field efforts, as needed, which may include site visits, documentation of field activities, and coordination of field records and data.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement of document templates, workflows, and quality control processes across projects.
  • Establishing effective working relationships to successfully complete work.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelors of Arts in English or an environmental field (e.g., environmental science, geology, anthropology, ecology).
  • Background or familiarity with environmental science, engineering, or related technical disciplines preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years’ experience as an editor in a deadline-focused environment.
  • Impeccable grammar skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple Project Managers and technical experts in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to understand and work with technical data, reports, and environmental documentation.
  • Willingness to support occasional field work or site visits, depending on project needs.
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary project teams is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: must be able to coordinate with all staff levels and across all technical areas and a variety of office locations to produce timely, high-quality deliverables.
  • Flexibility in dealing with changing priorities and shifting schedules.
  • Expert skills with documentation/word processing systems (e.g., Adobe [Illustrator, and Acrobat], Microsoft [Word, PowerPoint, Excel]).
  • Ability to perform documentation coordination and production activities with specific attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proven experience as a technical writer working on documents developed for environmental fields and in working with a variety of style guides.
  • Successful results of preemployment screenings, including federal background check, MVR, and drug screen.
  • Comply with company drug and alcohol policy.
  • Be authorized to work in the US or will be authorized by the successful candidate’s start date.

Location Requirements

This position can accommodate remote work, but ability to report to an office location part-time is ideal in these locations—Washington, DC, Columbia, MD, Newport News, VA, Dallas or El Paso, TX.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $50,000 – $65,000
