Job description

Job Title: Vice President of Data Center Construction 

Division: FiOptix Inc

FSLA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Job Summary: This position is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing operational activities related to the design, construction, and delivery of data center infrastructure projects, while also driving business development initiatives to expand the Company’s presence in the data center construction market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Drive operational efficiencies across data center construction projects and ensure strategies are in line with the Company’s mission and goals
  • Collaborate with the Finance department to prepare budgets for construction projects; regularly evaluate P&L to ensure adherence to established budgets
  • Review construction project results against customer milestones, project schedules, and Company standards
  • Oversee the planning, scheduling, and execution of data center construction projects from pre-construction and site development through commissioning and turnover
  • Cultivate a culture of safety and ethical compliance across all job sites, with particular attention to construction and mission-critical facility safety standards
  • Provide leadership and direction to project managers, superintendents, and field staff; identify training needs and ensure proper training is provided
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with data center owners, hyperscale and colocation clients, general contractors, subcontractors, and key vendors
  • Identify, recommend, and implement new construction processes, methodologies, and technologies to improve quality, safety, and schedule performance
  • Provide regular performance updates on construction operations, project pipeline, and financial results to Senior Management
  • Lead business development efforts to identify and pursue new data center construction opportunities, including responding to RFPs/RFQs and preparing proposals
  • Build and maintain relationships with developers, hyperscalers, colocation providers, and other industry stakeholders to generate new business and repeat work
  • Develop and execute strategies to grow revenue streams and expand market share within the data center construction sector
  • Represent the Company at industry events, trade shows, and client meetings to promote brand visibility and support business development
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and procedures, applicable building codes, and regulatory requirements; maintain effective internal controls
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Job Duties: 

  • Carries out supervisory duties in accordance with the Company’s objectives, policies, and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, planning, assigning, and directing work, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing employee concerns, and partnering with Human Resources to resolve escalated employee matters.

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field from a four-year college or university 

Experience: 

  • Fifteen years’ construction experience, with a strong preference for data center, mission-critical, or large-scale industrial construction
  • Ten years management experience 
  • Experience managing large-scale, multi-site data center or mission-critical construction projects
  • Demonstrated experience in business development, client relationship management, and securing new construction contracts
  • Experience forecasting and budgeting
  • Knowledge of industry safety standards and regulations

 Technical Skills: 

  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to use various customer systems

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a drive record that meets Company requirements
  • Sitting at a desk for 6-8 hours a day
  • Working on a computer for 6-8 hours a day 
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours 
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, including short notice travel. Travel includes local site travel or national travel depending on business needs.
