Job description

Tripler Army Medical Center is looking for a Biomedical Investigative Assistant to provide scientific laboratory services and support for researchers and graduate medical education
residents for the Department of Clinical Investigation, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC), Honolulu, Hawaii.

Salary: $72,000


Clinical Trial Support Objectives:
-To provide specimen collection and processing for clinical studies which evaluate new drugs and
treatments or evaluate course of disease progression
-To provide laboratory analyses for clinical studies which evaluate devices that improve readiness and
military operational medicine
- Clinical Trial Support Services – Contract Personnel shall:
-Collect clinical specimens and maintain patient confidentiality as written in protocol

-Process specimens as per specific assay requirements according to protocol
-Store and keep track of specimens in catalogue freezer space until specimens ready for shipment to central
laboratories for multisite studies
-Summarize data in databases and prepare summary reports
-Translational Physiology Support Objectives:
-To develop and characterize models for promotion of Defense Health Readiness
-To provide laboratory analyses for studies which address military priorities such as combat casualty
care, wound healing, and transport medicine
-To investigate therapeutic efficacy of novel molecular or cellular treatments that improve learning
-Translational Physiology Study Services – Contract Personnel shall:
-Provide input to laboratory and animal procedures, behavioral analysis, tissue harvesting and histological
analysis, molecular and immunological assays, cell culture, and data analysis
-Provide Combat Casualty Post-field Care studies: perform in vitro and in vivo testing of treatment
strategy plans to control fluid and electrolyte balance; evaluate effects that mimic prolonged field care and transport
medicine; and perform laboratory assays for biomarkers of ischemia and inflammation and hormonal regulation
-Provide Wound Tissue Healing studies: evaluate biomarkers associated with acute lung injury; resistant
wound healing in infected wounds, and stem cell effectiveness in reducing inflammatory injury and promoting tissue
repair
-Provide Gulf War Illness studies: evaluate experimental therapies for the treatment of Gulf War Illness by
performing in vitro assays and in vivo testing in rodent models, to include development of an exosome-mediated
drug delivery system, behavioral testing, and evaluating of possible toxic effects on cardiac and renal function
-Microbiology Study Objectives:
-To demonstrate the ability to identify molecular and protein biomarkers that detect distinct signatures of emerging infectious diseases
-To characterize new methods for detecting and tracking antimicrobial resistance patterns
-To identify more rapid diagnostic technologies to prescribe correct antibiotics for infected patients.
-To provide infectious disease surveillance in the Pacific Region
-Microbiology Study Support Services – Contract Personnel shall:
-Collect and process clinical specimens and maintain patient confidentiality working with de-identified
specimens
-Analyze bacteria and virus infected specimens with different molecular assays and protein biomarker
assays to compare
-Evaluate unique DNA signatures and prevalence of antimicrobial resistant in clinical specimens
-Contribute specimens and data to biobanks and analyze results for disease surveillance programs 


Education:

-A Biomedical Investigative Assistant must have met the educational requirements for a Bachelor’s
degree in basic biomedical research field (to include, but not limited to biology, chemistry, zoology,
microbiology) OR a minimum 1 year demonstrated experience in laboratory research.
Experience:
-Biomedical Investigative Assistant: Demonstrate experience in laboratory research to include
laboratory course work at the collegiate level. Demonstrate laboratory research experience or work on clinical
studies to include data collection and analyses.
-Knowledge and experience in performing basic laboratory procedures to include but not limited to
preparing chemical reagents, processing biological samples and specimens, data recording, experiment record
keeping.
-Understanding of methodology and design for research.
-Knowledge and experience with laboratory benchwork.
-Knowledge and experience with preparing data summaries and quality control lab tests.

-Experience with performing data entry and graphics generation for scientific presentations.
-Biomedical Investigative Assistant shall possess broad knowledge of computers and related software to
include word processing, spreadsheet, data base management, statistical applications, and intranet and Internet
connections and applications
