INTRODUCTION:

AB Consulting GSS is a U.S.-based supplier of experienced technical talent to the manufacturing and construction industries. A major GC client is asking us to provide a Construction Project Manager to assist with construction of a mission-critical hyper-scale data center in the southeastern U.S.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Construction Project Manager (PM) will work on site in a fast-paced construction environment under the direction of the client’s Construction Director. The PM will oversee a team of 4-5 Superintendents to ensure that construction of 1 or more large data center halls are built safely, on time, on budget, and accordant with project specs. You will lead meetings, plan, monitor, and control subcontractor construction activities, mitigate schedule risks, communicate with stakeholders, track costs, administer contracts, review and approve invoices and change notices, etc.

CONTRACT TYPE: 1099 Independent Contractor, with potential for conversion to full-time W-2 employee

LOCATION: This position is planned for south-central North Carolina, but jobs can be anywhere in the continental U.S. In order to be considered you must be highly willing and flexible to travel and work at the client’s site(s). Projects typically last 18 to 24 months.

START DATE: late August, 2026

DURATION: 18 to 24 months with good chance of extension

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee total construction effort for one or more buildings to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, A/E representatives, subcontractors, end users, security, etc.
  • Communicate with multiple site representatives on a weekly basis, defining the SOW, soliciting quotes, tracking the work, invoicing and making payments for each project.
  • Establish project objectives, policies, procedures and performance standards within boundaries of corporate policy. Plan, coordinate and/or supervise activities of all company and subcontractor personnel on assigned project(s).
  • Monitor/control construction through administrative direction of on-site Superintendent(s) to ensure project is built on schedule and within budget; investigate potentially serious situations and implement corrective measures.
  • Authorize/approve all project personnel transactions (hiring, transfers, wages, etc.), purchase requisitions, change requests, etc.
  • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to. Interpret policies as required.
  • Maintain official project log and documentation files. Assist with implementation/ interpretation of safety programs. Provide input to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
  • Manage financial aspects of contracts (fee payment, rental equipment, income/expenses, etc.) to protect company’s interest and simultaneously maintain good relationship with the end client.
  • Assume additional responsibilities as directed by regional management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 4-year Construction Management / Engineering degree or equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related knowledge and experience managing large (> 250,000 ft2) industrial project construction activities, contracts, and finance. Sectors such as industrial manufacturing and mission-critical data center construction will be heavily favored.
  • GC-level experience with administering contracts, subcontracts, estimating, change notices, and soliciting quotes.
  • Experience supporting and promoting industrial safety standards.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with Earned Value Management systems, and construction / industrial workflows (RFIs, submittals, procurement, commissioning).
  • Strong technical familiarity with medium- and low-voltage electrical power distribution, large-scale HVAC systems, MEP, and civil construction aspects.
  • Experience using and interacting with construction management software such as Bluebeam, Procore, Last Planner, and visual management tools. OSHA 30, PMP, and other certifications strongly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational skills to lead cross-functional teams and coordinate activities with multiple stakeholders.
