Position Overview

We are looking for a HVAC Technician, NA for our data center in Montreal (Pointe-Claire) who knows what best-in-class service looks like and can make that a reality. This role is an important member of our facilities team where we manage some of the most efficient and cost-effective data center facilities in the industry.

The successful candidate for this role will work with a team of other electrical and mechanical-focused technicians performing maintenance and repair for our data center infrastructure.We take our customer requirements for uptime seriously and keep our facilities maintained to a very high standard to insure uninterrupted service for our customers.

This role is on-site in Montreal (Saint-Laurent), QC.

Essential Job Functions

  • Ensure the optimal functioning of the mechanical and electrical systems of the data center at all times, including preventive and corrective maintenance.

  • Work under limited supervision, both independently and as part of a team

  • Manage multiple single or ongoing projects

  • Respond to safety and emergency situations and maintain a safe and risk-free work environment

  • Demonstrate discretion and judgment in organizing workflow and adapting to new priorities in a changing environment

  • Communicate regularly with employees at all levels of the company and with external suppliers

Duties

  • Operate critical systems (HVAC, industrial chillers, building controls, computer room air handling units, UPS, PDUs, diesel generators, automatic transfer equipment, etc.) and perform their maintenance and repairs

  • Produce reliability reports to achieve and maintain capacity targets and 100% availability rate

  • Coordinate and monitor the work of maintenance service providers to ensure the safety of personnel, protect critical facility equipment, and maintain power to the critical load

  • Create the necessary work methods, standard operating procedures and emergency procedures to which all maintenance activities must comply

  • Additional duties as assigned by Management

Job Requirements

  • Practical experience of at least three years, preferably five, in maintenance and repair of industrial electrical and mechanical systems, such as emergency units (generators, fuel distribution, paralleling cabinets), electrical distribution devices (medium voltage/low voltage switchgear and related controls), UPS, HVAC systems, air handlers, computer room cooling systems, and building monitoring and control systems

  • Demonstrate knowledge in operating, maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and testing critical electrical distribution systems, HVAC systems and building management/automation equipment

  • Ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering plans as well as building architecture and to understand connections and single-line diagrams

  • Knowledge of common concepts, practices and processes related to mechanical and electrical systems required to operate data centers

  • Experience and skills in technical writing, as well as creating, coordinating, updating and modifying work methods, standard operating procedures and emergency procedures for critical installations, including support of new systems and research of technical requirements

  • Professional experience in the electrical or mechanical sector (highly desired), focused on technical skills and training, with the intention of obtaining a license within a reasonable time frame

  • Willingness to follow official training if necessary, in a field of specialization, such as maintenance of UPS systems

  • Candidates must possess reliable transportation for reporting to work for shifts, or emergencies

  • Ability to travel occasionally for training purposes (less than 5% of total time)

  • Potential employees must complete a background check successfully

  • Proven skills in the use of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word and Excel) and automatic building control systems.
