Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Data Center Engineer to join our team in Secaucus, NJ. This role requires hands-on work with our physical servers, network infrastructure, and IT components across various colocation facilities. You'll be responsible for the physical setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of server and network hardware, while ensuring smooth operations and accurate documentation.
The ideal candidate is energized by working in a cutting-edge data center environment that enables IMC to continue to be at the forefront of the evolving global financial markets.
Core hours for this position are Monday-Friday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. This role is based in Secaucus, NJ, and requires travel to local colocation facilities.
Your Core Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the lifecycle of physical servers, network devices, and other IT infrastructure components
  • Perform installation, configuration, and upkeep of server and network components in our data centers
  • Plan and implement efficient rack layouts, cabling schemes, and patching schedules to optimize data center operations
  • Diagnose hardware issues, coordinate with vendors for repairs or replacements (RMA process), and ensure timely resolution
  • Handle incoming and outgoing shipments, maintain accurate hardware inventory, and manage stock levels of IT components
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of physical infrastructure, cabling layouts, rack configurations, and associated processes
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with hardware vendors, colocation partners, and remote hands teams to ensure efficient operations
  • Maintain office IT infrastructure, including hardware and network systems

Your Skills and Experience:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in data center engineering
  • Strong understanding of server hardware, network devices, and data storage systems
  • Knowledge of network cabling, fiber optics, and optical transceivers
  • Experience with fiber optic testing and cleaning is required
  • Basic knowledge of Linux operating systems and networking protocols
  • CCNA certification is a plus
  • Proven experience in racking, cabling, and working with data center facilities management tools (power, cooling, etc.)
  • Familiarity with basic scripting in Bash and Python within a Linux environment is a plus
  • Strong ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment, and adapt to changing requirements
  • A collaborative mindset, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, often with minimal supervision
  • Ability to safely lift and move equipment weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required
  • A valid driver's license is required for travel between facilities
