Job description

PURPOSE

Partnering with the IT Leadership team, the Global IT – Data Center Engineer will ensure that Data Center infrastructure availability, performance, and stability support SMC’s strategic goals. This position can work alone or with teams and could work anywhere within the Enterprise on campus or at remote office locations. The Global IT Data Center Engineer will be a member of an advanced team of engineers to provide outstanding support to other IT teams and the business. This position is on a team that encourages an adaptable culture, transformative thinking, and continuous learning.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provide awesome support for current and future enterprise systems
  • Complete all relevant work as required by the team's standards
  • Vigilant adherence to SMC Global IT security policies, procedures, best practices, and established standards
  • Participate in and optimize IT Infrastructure implementations, forecasting, and maintenance
  • Support of the design, development, and management of network servers, virtualization, storage, and monitoring systems
  • Deployment of Servers and virtual environments, including but not limited to VMWare, various Windows server versions, and Linux
  • Research, evaluate and make recommendations concerning new third-party products or industry trends which are related to data center operations, management, and uptime
  • Identify and help create documentation for the global data center knowledge base
  • Knowledge of out-of-band/lights-out server communication methods, such as IPMI and serial console
  • Understand and analyze OS Provisioning technologies
  • Work with business entities to ensure successful partnering and uptime requirements for networks & datacenters
  • Experience modifying and developing scripting or programming languages
  • Strong critical thinking, complex problem-solving, appropriate judgment, and decision-making skills
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Administer and support enterprise data protection platforms, including Rubrik and Dell Technologies solutions (e.g., PowerProtect, Avamar, and Data Domain).
  • Perform backup, recovery, and restore operations while monitoring and troubleshooting backup failures, performance issues, and system alerts.
  • Support data lifecycle management activities, including retention, archival, replication, and secure data disposal in accordance with established standards.
  • Execute documented disaster recovery procedures and participate in disaster recovery testing activities.
  • Support incident response efforts related to data loss, corruption, ransomware, and other cyber events, escalating issues as appropriate.

 

DESIRED EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience with IT Enterprise networking
  • Practical experience with VCF, VMware vSphere 7 (6.5+) (including multiple sites / clusters, host profiles, customizations), vMotion, VMware ESXi, vCenter, vROPS, Horizon, IDPA, NSX, NSX-T, VDI deployment, configuration, and maintenance in production environments
  • Administration of VMware virtual environment using vSphere spanning multiple data centers and networks
  • Experience with Dell VxRail, Data Domain, Avamar, EMC and IDPA storage platforms
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience deploying, managing, migrating, and upgrading Microsoft technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory, GPOs, SCCM, O365, and security policies
  • Experience deploying, troubleshooting, and maintaining Windows Server 2012 and beyond
  • Experience deploying and managing MFA and security solutions such as Okta and PAM (Privileged Access Management)
  • Basic Networking Knowledge (VLANs, firewalls, load balancers, NAT, DNS, LANs/WANs)
  • Experience with common network services, SNMP, Syslog, DNS, NTP, DHCP, AD, etc.
  • Experience with public cloud providers such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google
  • Analysis of network performance using standard tools, to provide root cause analysis, recommendations, guidance, and expertise in maintaining the highest level of performance
  • Perform complex troubleshooting, backup, archiving, and recovery tasks
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain and update system(s) documentation
  • Experience conducting routine maintenance for all systems as needed for security and feature updates
  • Assist in the architecture design, implementation, commissioning and build out of new facilities

  • Ability to articulate and communicate design, security, and performance issues

  • Experience with enterprise backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery processes.
  • Experience troubleshooting backup failures, storage performance issues, and recovery operations.
  • Working knowledge of data lifecycle management, retention policies, archival, and cyber recovery best practices.
