Job Title: Cable TechnicianJob Description

This role focuses on installing, terminating, and supporting commercial low-voltage cabling infrastructure, including CAT-5 and CAT-6 data cabling. You will work on a variety of commercial projects, from new pre-wire installations to upgrades in existing facilities, ensuring that network cabling is installed neatly, safely, and according to specifications. Both experienced commercial cable installers and motivated entry-level candidates who are ready to work hard and learn quickly are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities
  • Pull and install CAT-5 and CAT-6 data cabling in commercial environments, including running cable through rafters and other building structures.
  • Terminate data cabling at the wall and in network cabinets, performing punch-downs and terminations to industry standards.
  • Install and secure cabling using J-hooks and other appropriate hardware to ensure clean, organized, and code-compliant cable runs.
  • Assist in the installation of cabinets and racks for data centers and network rooms, ensuring proper layout and cable management.
  • Support installation of access points and related low-voltage and security wiring as needed.
  • Follow detailed instructions accurately the first time and complete tasks with minimal need for repeated guidance.
  • Work reliably and consistently, maintaining regular attendance and demonstrating strong work ethic on every assignment.
  • Adapt to different commercial job sites, including new construction pre-wire projects and upgrades to existing facilities.
  • Collaborate effectively with other technicians and team members to complete installations on schedule.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by using tools correctly and following site safety guidelines.
Essential Skills
  • Experience pulling and installing CAT-5 and CAT-6 cabling in commercial settings, or strong interest and willingness to learn for entry-level candidates.
  • Proficiency or ability to learn punch-down and termination techniques for data cabling at wall plates, patch panels, and network cabinets.
  • Understanding of basic construction and wiring practices related to low-voltage cabling.
  • Ability to use J-hooks and standard installation tools for securing and organizing cabling.
  • Demonstrated reliability, with consistent work history and no large unexplained employment gaps.
  • Fast learning ability and capacity to follow directions accurately without needing repeated instruction.
  • Comfort working in commercial environments, including pre-wire and retrofit projects.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to neat, professional cable installations.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Commercial cabling and commercial installation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Experience installing and terminating access points and security-related wiring is a plus.
  • BICSI certification is highly valued and places candidates in a very strong position for consideration.
  • Foreman or lead-level experience is a plus and may open opportunities for future leadership-focused roles.
  • Ability to work in different types of facilities, from bare-bones construction sites to fully built and occupied buildings.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Why Work Here?

You will gain substantial hands-on experience across a wide range of commercial cabling projects, building skills that are highly valued in the industry. Competitive market-based pay is offered, and technicians who demonstrate strong performance and reliability have a realistic opportunity to transition from contract to full-time employment. Full-time team members benefit from structured development plans designed to support career growth, as well as access to ongoing education and training to deepen their technical expertise.

Work Environment

You will work in diverse commercial environments that vary by project, including bare-bones facilities undergoing large pre-wire installations and fully built sites that require cabling upgrades. The broader team consists of approximately 40 people, providing a collaborative atmosphere with support from other technicians. Work involves using standard installation tools, running cable through building structures such as rafters, and installing cabinets and racks in data centers and network rooms.
