What is a Data BI engineer?

Data BI (Business Intelligence) Engineers are professionals who design, build, and maintain systems that transform raw data into meaningful business insights. They develop data pipelines, integrate various data sources, and create reports or dashboards to support decision-making processes. Their work ensures that companies have accurate, timely, and actionable information to drive strategy and operations. Data BI Engineers typically work closely with data analysts, data scientists, and business stakeholders.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data BI engineer?

To thrive as a Data BI Engineer, you need strong skills in data modeling, SQL, ETL processes, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or Looker, as well as experience with data warehouses and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure, is typically required. Critical thinking, problem-solving, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for translating data insights into actionable business recommendations. These skills and qualities are essential for building reliable data solutions that empower organizations to make informed, data-driven decisions.

Job description

Are you a data-driven problem solver who enjoys turning complex information into clear, actionable insights? As our Business Intelligence Engineer, youโ€™ll play an important role in helping Care Hospice use data to make smarter clinical, operational, financial, and strategic decisions.

This is a hands-on opportunity for a BI professional who enjoys both the technical and business sides of analytics. Youโ€™ll design and develop intuitive Tableau dashboards, establish meaningful KPIs and reporting standards, and partner closely with leaders and stakeholders across the organization to turn business questions into trusted analytics solutions.

Youโ€™ll serve as a key connection between our Data Engineering team and the people who rely on data every dayโ€”helping ensure information is accurate, accessible, easy to understand, and presented in a way that drives better decisions. If you enjoy creating analytics that people actually use, solving data challenges, and improving how an organization understands its business, weโ€™d love to hear from you.

Location: This position is based out of our Charlottesville Support Center Office, located in the Dairy Market. This role offers a hybrid schedule, balancing occasional on-site work with remote flexibility. Candidates must be within driving distance of the office for on-site days.

Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. **

At Care Hospice, we look for dedicated professionals who share our belief that true hospice care extends beyond medical needsโ€”itโ€™s about bringing dignity, peace, and human connection to every life we touch.

We offer a supportive, growth-oriented environment along with a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

  • Company matching 401(k) to secure your future
  • A generous time-off package with 15 days of PTO & 10 Holidays to rest  and recharge

  • Govern & Protect: Support data governance, privacy, security, and regulatory standards across analytics solutions.
  • Share Expertise: Help establish BI best practices, design standards, documentation, and consistent reporting across Care Hospice.

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in information systems, data analytics, computer science, business intelligence, or a related field (preferred); equivalent experience will be considered.
  • BI Expertise: 3+ years of experience developing business intelligence, analytics, reporting, or data visualization solutions.
