We provide unique insights and sophisticated analytical solutions that help clients understand how healthcare operations, financial arrangements, and data affect the legal disputes they may be facing. We combine in-depth operational, compliance, and clinical industry knowledge with exceptional data analytics, information-gathering, and forensic capabilities, enabling us to help clients and counsel assess and quantify the potential impact of a dispute.

Role Overview

The Director will support the Healthcare Disputes team within Ankura's Disputes & Economics practice. The Director will use data analytics skills, healthcare industry knowledge, and project management capabilities to develop custom solutions for clients facing high-profile and complex investigations and commercial disputes in a fast-paced environment.

The Director will manage significant engagement workstreams, direct day-to-day analytical activities, supervise junior professionals, and translate complex analyses into clear and defensible findings. The Director will also work closely with senior engagement leaders to support client relationships, business development initiatives, and the continued growth of the Healthcare Disputes practice.

Ideally this position will be hybrid 2-3 days per week at one of our offices in DC, NY, LA, or Chicago.

Responsibilities

The Director will perform the following types of activities:

  • Manage significant engagement workstreams, including work planning, staffing, budgeting, deadline management, and coordination with clients and counsel.

  • Direct and review the development of complex analytical models using relational database software, programming languages, spreadsheets, and other analytical tools.

  • Interpret analytical results in the context of relevant healthcare, economic, regulatory, and legal issues.

  • Ensure that analyses are accurate, reproducible, appropriately documented, and suitable for use in litigation, investigations, and other high-stakes matters.

  • Supervise and conduct data-gathering activities, document review, data assessment, and quality-control procedures.

  • Apply innovative analytical techniques to healthcare engagements, including matters involving risk adjustment, claims reimbursement, managed care, and value-based care.

  • Contribute to the development and refinement of analytical methodologies, tools, and client offerings.

  • Contribute to business development initiatives, thought leadership, and go-to-market efforts focused on emerging healthcare industry and litigation issues.

  • Develop subject-matter expertise in healthcare topics such as predictive analytics, risk adjustment, value-based care, healthcare claims, and reimbursement.

  • Prepare and review client communications, reports, presentations, and other written and oral deliverables for senior-level review.

  • Communicate analytical findings clearly to clients, counsel, experts, and senior engagement leaders.

  • Develop, supervise, and motivate teams of high-performing consultants.

  • Mentor and supervise Associate and Senior Associate professionals.

  • Support senior team members in developing and maintaining client relationships.

  • Manage multiple concurrent engagements and workstreams while maintaining high standards of quality and client service.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, data analytics, statistics, economics, business, finance, or a related quantitative discipline.

  • Six or more years of experience in litigation consulting, data analytics, or technical advisory roles supporting complex disputes and high-stakes investigations.

  • Experience supporting litigation, investigations, damages calculations, expert reports, or other high-stakes legal engagements.

  • Hands-on proficiency in SQL and relational database environments, with the demonstrated ability to review and direct work performed using these tools.

  • Experience using Databricks to architect, build, and direct complex analytics

  • Familiarity with additional big-data analytical programming languages and environments, such as PySpark, Python, R, or SAS.

  • Experience analyzing healthcare claims, reimbursement, payer/provider operations, or healthcare data analytics is preferred

  • Demonstrated experience managing technical workstreams, designing reproducible analytical methodologies, and supervising junior data professionals.

  • Ability to understand and analyze complex issues in the context of litigation, investigations, and the attorney-client relationship.

  • Ability to protect privileged, confidential, and sensitive client information.

  • Strong project-management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements.

  • Commitment to quality, collaboration, and working effectively within a team environment.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical findings and data architecture to nontechnical audiences, counsel, and senior engagement leaders.

  • Ability and willingness to travel, as needed.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or New York, Ankura is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the said markets and considers a broad range of factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The range does not include additional benefits outside of salary. At Ankura, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each role. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range is between $100,000 to $160,000; this range is not a promise of a particular wage.
