Job description

For over seven decades investor-owned utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and others have entrusted their electrical construction and maintenance needs to Davis H. Elliot Company, Inc. (Elliot).

Elliot is a full-service electrical contractor specializing in overhead and underground distribution, transmission, substations, lighting, traffic signaling, utility locating and industrial/commercial services.

Job Description

Davis H. Elliot Construction Company, Inc. is looking for an electrical arc flash survey technician.  A qualified professional who conducts on-site data collection to assess arc flash hazards and ensure compliance with OSHA and NFPA 70E standards. The technician identifies, documents, and labels electrical equipment to determine potential incident energy.  Often working as journeyman electricians. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • On-site Data Collection: (this will require traveling to sites and overnight stay) Gathering technical details from electrical equipment, including transformer ratings, conductor lengths/sizes, circuit breaker settings, and motor data.
  • Creating One-Line Diagrams: Updating or creating accurate, comprehensive single-line diagrams that model the electrical distribution systems and branch circuitry.
  • Equipment Labeling: Identifying equipment to prepare and apply arc flash warning labels.
  • System Analysis Support: Logging data into software to perform fault current analysis, coordination studies, and incident energy analysis.
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensuring compliance with NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements, including safety boundaries. 

Qualifications

  • Qualified Person Status: Extensive knowledge of electrical safety, PPE requirements, and NFPA 70E guidelines. Ability to identify arc flash hazards and determine safe work practices and required PPE.
  • Technical Experience: Requires experience as a Master or Journeyman electrician, with in-depth knowledge of industrial/commercial electrical systems.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to work with protective devices, trip settings, and understand & develop one-line diagrams.
