Description:

Textum OPCO, LLC is hiring a Chemist for its Dayton, OH Composite Manufacturing operation. At Textum, we are committed to advancing material science through innovative solutions that cater to the aerospace, defense, energy, and infrastructure industries. Our expertise extends to developing high-performance textiles and composites that thrive in extreme environments. The Chemist will play a pivotal role in our materials development team, working on projects involving the formulation, characterization, and application of new and existing materials. This is an early career role, and the Chemist will work directly with more senior team members who will guide his/her activities.


The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry, specifically in polymer or materials science. They should be capable of conducting experiments, analyzing results, and collaborating with engineers and other scientists in a fast-paced environment. The Chemist will be involved in all stages of product development, from ideation through prototyping to production, but the majority of the job will be in production producing polymer resins in batch processing for internal use.

Details of Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of tasks, including but not limited to: process documentation, product fabrication, internal and external communication, and supplier coordination

  • Maintain safety protocols and laboratory cleanliness while handling chemicals
  • Record all data and results in specified forms (paper and electronic) with accuracy and responsibility
  • Conduct quality control on finished resin product and identify/document defects
  • Formulate and test new materials for performance in threshold conditions
  • Characterize chemical properties and behaviors through laboratory experimentation
  • Collaborate with engineers to integrate new materials into products
  • Document research findings for internal and external communication
  • Assist in troubleshooting material issues in production processes
  • Maintain equipment and assist in ordering supplies
  • Support both production and R&D activities
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or a related field is required
  • 2+ years of experience in chemical production or materials research is preferred
  • Experience with polymer synthesis and characterization techniques is an advantage
  • Familiarity with analytical equipment such as NMR, FTIR, and TGA is desired
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and data analysis software
  • Candidates will be required to pass a drug test
  • Candidates will be required to pass a background check
