Position: Senior SQL Database Administrator

Summary


We are seeking a Senior SQL Database Administrator who brings strong technical instincts, dependable execution, and a mission-driven approach to supporting the customer’s enterprise data environment. In this role, you’ll safeguard the performance, security, and availability of SQL Server and Oracle databases that our analysts, leaders, and mission partners rely on every day. You’ll work directly with enterprise-grade databases, storage systems, and secure configurations by keeping critical data accessible, protected, and operating at peak efficiency. Capabilities

  • Provide database administration support for Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle production and development environments, including UNIX administration supporting SQL operations.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and support Microsoft Windows, SQL Server, Oracle databases, data warehouses, and client interfaces—ensuring all systems comply with DISA STIG requirements and operate reliably across the enterprise.
  • Ensure data availability and system health by monitoring event logs, reporting daily status, and providing timely updates to the COR or CTO on any issues or anomalies throughout the workday.
  • Assess and deploy patches and updates for SQL Server and/or Oracle databases, ensuring systems remain current with manufacturer releases and aligned with the customer’s licensing and update schedules.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database issues identified through the ticketing system or routine system checks, coordinating with vendor support as needed to restore full functionality.
  • Plan, schedule, and execute database backups and restorations using SQL/Oracle utilities and NetBackup software, following the customer’s established backup schedule and ensuring data integrity.
  • Monitor and manage system storage, maintaining SAN utilization below 85% and collaborating with server administration team members when thresholds are exceeded.
  • Provide expert input on infrastructure growth, offering recommendations and technical insights to support future database, storage, and platform expansion.
  • Identify and mitigate security vulnerabilities by installing updates, applying configuration changes, and implementing security directives from the Army or DISA as directed.
  • Apply system updates and antivirus changes to assigned servers upon release and direction from the COR or CTO, maintaining OS integrity and security posture.
  • Demonstrate strong enterprise-level database expertise, including experience across relational and multidimensional environments, with the ability to design and manage both logical and physical data models.
  • Apply modern data modeling practices, including normalized, de-normalized, star, and snowflake structures, with the ability to manage evolving data attributes and complex dimensional changes.
  • Exhibit exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, enabling quick diagnosis and effective resolution of complex database and performance issues.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, providing verbal, written, and visual updates that translate technical information into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Work independently and proactively, setting priorities, defining objectives, and driving projects to completion while maintaining alignment with mission requirements.
  • Guide data and analytics platform decisions, offering practical direction on enterprise data warehousing tools, technologies, and best practices.
  • Apply structured methodologies, such as project management frameworks, ITIL processes, and SDLC practices, to ensure disciplined execution and documentation.
  • Support data warehouse and BI environments, including gathering business requirements and translating them into scalable data processes and schema designs.
  • Maintain strong working knowledge of relational database environments, including SQL in platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, or MySQL.

Education, Certifications, and Training

  • Must meet DoD IAT-III certification requirements, demonstrating advanced competency in information assurance, security principles, and enterprise-level system administration.
  • Bachelor’s degree required in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Advanced degree in Applied Mathematics, Business Analytics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, or a related discipline that strengthens analytical and technical capability preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in a directly related technical area, reflecting both deep professional expertise and demonstrated leadership or management capability in complex environments.
