Job Description Summary

This role manages a team of data scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities. It applies advanced data science techniques to uncover trends from large datasets and inform strategic decisions across diverse business areas such as marketing, supply chain, and economic research.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversees and engages in deep dive diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to support data-driven business decision making. Creates alternative model approaches to assess complex model design and advance future capabilities.

  • Manages a team of data scientists responsible for a portfolio of diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics projects to support data-driven business decision making. Supports the continuous evolution and strategy of Vanguard's data science capabilities.

  • Identifiesand diagnoses data inconsistencies and errors, documents data assumptions, and forages to fill data gaps.

  • Engages with internal stakeholders to understand and probe business processesin order todevelop hypotheses. Brings structure to requests and translates requirements into an analytic approach.

  • Guidestest design, research design, and model validation. Provides statistical consultation services. Serves as the analytics expert on cross functional teams for large strategic initiatives and contributes to the growth of the Vanguard analytic community.

  • Executes operational plans to achieve departmentobjectives. Collaborates with department or functional heads in planning, developing, and executing near-term goals.

  • Prepares, reviews, and delivers insight presentations and action recommendations. Communicates complex analytical findings and implications to business leaders.

  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

  • Designs and refines data mining architectures, analytical protocols, and statistical reporting methods toidentifyactionable trends in large and complex datasets.

  • Applies advanced data science principles and emerging technologies to develop models that inform strategic decisions across functions such as marketing, supply chain, and economic forecasting.

  • Conducts research to evaluatecutting-edgeanalytics methodologies, aiming to enhance organizational capabilities andmaintaincompetitive advantage

  • Hires, evaluates, and supervises crew.Provides guidance and training as necessary to develop crew.Sets performance standards, reviews performance, and makes informed compensation decisionsin accordance withall applicable Human Resources policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five+ years related work experience in Data science roles.

  • Programming skills to access,transformand prepare large scale data for machine learning modeling.

  • Experienceutilizingstatistical and machine learning methods.

  • Experience in creating explainable ML solutions and attribution methodologies.

  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Analytics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Statistics or related field of study or equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Graduate degree preferred.
