Job description

SGA is seeking a Technical Business Analyst - Investments Data Platform for a long-term consulting assignment with one of our premier insurance clients. This is a hybrid opportunity based in Holmdel, NJ, requiring onsite presence two days per week (Wednesday and Thursday).
In this role, you will partner with Product, Investments, Risk, Operations, and Engineering teams to gather, analyze, and translate complex investment data requirements into scalable technology solutions. The ideal candidate will bring strong investment domain knowledge, hands-on data analysis experience, and the ability to bridge business and technical teams while supporting data platform modernization, automation, and reporting initiatives.
Responsibilities
Investment Data Requirements & Analysis
  • Partner with Product Managers, Product Owners, portfolio teams, risk teams, and operations stakeholders to gather and document business requirements.
  • Translate investment workflows into functional specifications, data mappings, and system requirements.
  • Analyze investment datasets including holdings, trades, issuer/security master, pricing, ratings, and cash flow data.
  • Identify upstream and downstream dependencies across data pipelines, reporting platforms, and consuming applications.
Data Analysis & Data Quality
  • Perform data profiling, reconciliation, validation, and root cause analysis across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve data quality issues, exceptions, and inconsistencies.
  • Define business rules, transformation logic, and validation requirements.
  • Support data lineage, traceability, and governance initiatives across the data platform.
Agile Delivery & Jira Management
  • Create and manage Jira epics, features, user stories, and backlog items.
  • Break business requirements into detailed, testable user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, prioritization, and Agile ceremonies.
  • Ensure traceability between business requirements, technical design artifacts, testing, and delivery outcomes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Refine requirements through stakeholder feedback and technical design discussions.
  • Collaborate closely with data engineers, architects, platform teams, and QA resources.
  • Serve as the liaison between business stakeholders and technical delivery teams.
  • Ensure alignment between business objectives and platform capabilities.
Testing & User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
  • Develop and execute UAT scenarios aligned to investment workflows and reporting requirements.
  • Validate end-to-end data flows from ingestion through transformation and reporting.
  • Coordinate testing activities with business users and project stakeholders.
  • Track defects through resolution and ensure successful remediation.
Delivery & Stakeholder Communication
  • Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, and delivery progress to stakeholders.
  • Support release validation and production implementation activities.
  • Ensure solutions meet business requirements and data accuracy expectations.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts across data platform processes and automation initiatives.
Required Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Business Analyst within investment management, asset management, insurance investments, or financial services environments.
  • Strong understanding of investment data concepts including securities, trades, portfolios, asset classes, ratings, and investment reporting.
  • Hands-on experience managing Jira features, epics, user stories, and Agile backlogs.
  • Strong SQL and data analysis skills with proficiency in Excel and related tools.
  • Experience working within Agile/Scrum delivery environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data validation skills.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and requirements gathering capabilities.
  • Experience documenting data mappings, business rules, and functional requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively across business, product, and technical teams.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supporting investment data platforms, data lakes, or enterprise data warehouse environments.
  • Familiarity with Databricks, Python, cloud data platforms (Azure or AWS), or similar technologies.
  • Experience with data ingestion frameworks, ETL/ELT processes, and API integrations.
  • Knowledge of fixed income, private placements, or insurance investment portfolios.
  • Understanding of data governance, lineage, and metadata management concepts.
  • Exposure to enterprise investment management platforms and tools
