Job description

The Business Data Analyst works closely with business lines to solve complex data and process improvement problems. Helps to define problem, data needs and definitions to make recommendations on a solution. Supports the delivery of tools that will scale and bring clarity to business line needs. Partners with Business Intelligence, Software Development teams and other business line analysts on solutions. This role requires a unique combination of skills: strong business acumen with a history of using data to solve business problems, deep analytical ability, a strategic and process improvement mindset as well as the ability translate data needs and encourage the use of data to guide decision making. This position acts as the subject matter expert responsible for analyzing business requirements and problems to recommend solutions, data requirements, and operational solutions, in partnership with stakeholder departments. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively with both technical and non-technical individuals.

Essential Functions:

  • Analyzes business requirements to design and develop optimal technical solutions using database and software development tools and methodologies.
  • Strong aptitude to identify process and operational improvement themes to support data and reporting requests.
  • Executes data analytics models with effective and practical short- and long-term actionable solutions.
  • May collaborate with business users to better understand needs and develop well defined business requirements.
  • May lead or support business line development efforts of reports and dashboards, by clearly defining and documenting data use, data source and function in support of the data program.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments and handle multiple priorities while maintaining a high level of service to clients in a deadline driven environment under the direction of management.
  • Achieves business goals by fostering innovation and coordinating the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future solutions.
  • Assists in establishing and developing appropriate implementation methodology to successfully develop and deploy the solution.
  • Conducts review of deliverables to ensure quality and standard process adherence.
  • Prepares findings for decision-makers. May interpret findings as needed.
  • Analyzes complex data sets surfacing critical business insights.
  • Brings groups with disparate interests and goals to an effective defined productive resolution.
  • Supports input for business line terms in business glossaries, data dictionaries, and data flow diagrams.
  • Adheres to IT standards and procedures.
  • Performs compliance and risk management duties as required or assigned.
  • Regular, reliable attendance is required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business/Finance, or similar field required or related equivalent professional experience.
  • Handles pressure in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities and aggressive deadlines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various applications and tools, including the Microsoft Office suite of products, spreadsheets, word processing, database, email, networking, development tools/languages, Internet applications and collaboration tools such as SharePoint and OneNote.
  • Strong attention to process improvement to ensure scale and efficiency.
  • Strong detail orientation with high level of organizational skills and ability to multi-task, managing interruptions with multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated self-motivation and initiative; ability to work well both independently and with others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to collaborate with and work effectively with diverse groups of people, managing conflict and negotiating for results when needed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical people.
  • Preferred experience working in the financial services industry.

  • Intermediate to advanced data modeling and data visualization experience
  • Familiar with DAX and Power Query

Compensation:

Business Data Analyst I - $31.88 - $47.83 per hour
Business Data Analyst II - $36.52 - $54.78 per hour

The compensation range represents the low and high end of the base compensation range for this position located in Spokane, WA. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance.
