Department:                     Department of Subways

Position Title:                   Data Analyst, Emerging Talent Intern

Hourly Rate:                    $19.00 (Undergraduate)

All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.

OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:

The Power Department is responsible for maintaining and managing the electrical and third rail systems that supply traction power to the New York City Transit network. It ensures safe, reliable, and continuous electrical service for train operations across the system. The Electrical oversee substations, cable systems, and maintenance, while the Third Rail focuses on maintaining and upgrading the third rail used to power trains. Together, these divisions handle critical repairs, capital projects, and emergency responses to sustain system reliability.

This assignment directly supports the MTA's mission to improve operational efficiency, safety, and service reliability. By developing automation tools, applications, and business intelligence solutions, the intern's work helps modernize workflows, reduce manual processes, and enhance data visibility across the Power Department. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform administrative tasks assigned by management to support daily departmental operations.
  • Assist in creating and updating Standard Operating Procedures and departmental manuals as directed.
  • Develop automation processes using Microsoft Power Automate to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.
  • Design and maintain interactive dashboards in Power Bl to visual1ize key performance metrics and operational data.
  • Assist in creating and managing database applications to support departmental data needs.
  • Analyze, clean, and format data in Excel or other applications to ensure data accuracy and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data-related issues in coordination with management and system operators.
  • Assist in record retention and storage of important departmental documents and take notes during department meetings for documentation purposes.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.

  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA.
  • Major(s) Preferred: Information Technology, or related field.
