As a Manufacturing Test Engineering Intern at Generac Home, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of our home energy products. You will work in a collaborative, high tech environment and contribute to the success of our innovative energy solutions with your testing and coding abilities and knowledge.

This position is located onsite in Reno, NV.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop software for running functional tests on home energy products.
  • Work alongside manufacturing test engineers and technicians to diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and software issues with newly developed test equipment.
  • Assist in hardware selection and setup to achieve testing requirements and help develop interfaces to control this hardware from a test computer.
  • Support validation and testing efforts for power electronics and battery storage systems, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware design engineers, firmware developers, product management, and quality assurance teams, to address validation requirements.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining technical documentation for test systems to ensure they are production ready and easily maintainable by contract manufacturing teams.
  • Support improvements to test uptime, cycle time, and yield through software optimization and smarter diagnostics.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • Basic proficiency in at least one programming language (Python, Go, or similar) for automated scripting, test development, and data processing.
  • Basic understanding of electrical fundamentals and circuit theory.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Exposure to coding in multiple languages (Go, Python, Shell, SQL).
  • Familiarity with Linux, Git, version control systems, and development tools.
  • Basic knowledge of communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, or MQTT.
  • Exposure to power electronics components such as inverters, converters, and controllers.
  • Basic understanding of schematics and electrical components.
  • Familiarity with electrical test equipment (Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Power Analyzers, etc.).

What You Will Learn and Gain Experience With:

  • Linux development environments, Git, Jira, Docker, and modern IDEs.
  • Shell/bash scripting and leveraging automation tools for power systems or embedded platforms.
  • Industry communication protocols for automated test systems.
  • Designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and documenting results.
  • Working with power electronics in a manufacturing environment.
  • Reading and interpreting schematics and electrical documentation.
  • Professional test equipment operation and measurement techniques.


Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talkand hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required tostand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend, or reach above theshoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job includeare typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus.
