JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIA

CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: INTERN - Finance


PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform various financial operations including budgeting, accounting and financial reporting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

Budgeting Support: Assist in the preparation and analysis of the county's annual operating and capital budgets.

Financial Reporting: Help compile and review financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

Accounts Management: Support accounts payable and receivable processes, including data entry and reconciliation.

Audit Assistance: Aid in the preparation for annual audits and the development of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).

Data Analysis: Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings.

Administrative Support: Provide general administrative assistance to the Finance Department as needed.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a degree program in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, or a related field.

Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Interest in pursuing a career in public finance or government operations.

Includes exercising discretion in determining data classification, and in referencing such analysis to established standards for the purpose of recognizing actual or probable interactive effects and relationships.
