Environmental Health & Safety Intern
Arthrex is a global medical device company and leader in orthopedics medical education. With a corporate mission of Helping Surgeons Treat Their Patients Better™, Arthrex has pioneered the field of arthroscopy and develops more than 1,000 innovative products and procedures each year that support all aspects of orthopedics. The Environmental Health & Safety department, consisting of Safety Professionals and Engineers in Pendleton, South Carolina, is seeking an Intern to provide support in daily tasks, while gaining functional experience in a medical device manufacturing environment. The chosen individual will assist in complex equipment machine safety validations, evaluate adequacy of safety controls, assist with developing and reviewing basic safety training classes, regulatory related inspections and perform basic Job Hazard Analysis and Chemical Hazard Analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong data analysis experience and will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a Bachelor of Science in an Engineering related field.
This internship will run from January 2027 - April 2027. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 20-30 hours per week at our Pendleton, SC facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Complex equipment machine safety validations via checklists.
  • Evaluating adequacy of safety controls (PPE, administrative and Engineering) through OSHA and internal standards.
  • Assist with developing and reviewing basic safety training classes. (content review, documentation, scheduling)
  • Performing basic Job Hazard Analysis and Chemical Hazard Analysis.

Education and Experience:
  • Progress towards a college degree in a related field required, preferably in Occupational Safety and Health or Engineering. (Recent graduates must be within six months of their graduation date to qualify.)

Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills. Be able to follow written and verbal direction.

Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
  • PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. Fax; Scanner.
