Senior RF Engineer - IBW (DAS - 911)

Annexa Inc is currently seeking a RF Engineer / In-Building Wireless Consultant with at least five years of experience working in operational public safety communications systems and commercial 4G wireless systems. The RF Engineering Consultant will be responsible for working with LMR radio system, software, and programs. In addition, the RF Engineering Consultant will also be responsible for the design, testing, and implementation of Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) that support FirstNet and P25 public safety radio communications.
The RF Engineering Consultant will perform technical work in the field of Land Mobile Radio (LMR) and wireless communications system engineering, design, and implementation. The consultant will be responsible for program review, compliance with licensing regulations, requirements gathering, design review, change management, and final acceptance of systems. Duties will include testing and acceptance of DAS systems, FCC licensing support, and radio system coverage design to include antennas, link budget, testing, and working with equipment vendors to implement feature upgrades. Furthermore, the consultant will conduct short and long-term planning to meet communications requirements. The consultant will also be responsible for performing hardware / software analysis to provide comparative data of performance characteristics and suitability within the existing systems environment.
Day to Day Tasks:
  • Support MPD radio update and tracking efforts
  • Support various capital project tasks associated with radio system infrastructure, subscriber deployment, DAS systems performance monitoring and interference resolution, and the testing and acceptance of OUC projects associated with DAS and radio systems infrastructure
  • Support / complete agency programming requests
  • Manage / coordinate encryption and OTAR upgrades
  • Develop radio training material for internal and external users
  • Develop technical guidelines for radio use
  • Develop In-Building approval criteria for In-Building Wireless (IBW)
  • Review IBW proposals for compliance
  • Review existing guidelines for IBW. Develop requirements for IBW systems implementation and support
  • Perform field surveys of new and existing BDA installations
  • Troubleshoot IBW network interference issues
  • Investigate IBW network coverage issues
  • Support OUC radio operations

Responsibilities:
  • Provides assessments of technical and operational practices associated with upgrades and system changes based on leading industry standards specific to the requested technology.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts research in a variety of areas, such as new or existing products, science, social science, law or business in support of an IT initiative.
  • Searches sources such as reference works, literature, documents, newspapers, statistical records, and other sources of information. May use Internet, Intranet, magazines, periodicals, journals, and other media to perform research.
  • Analyzes information and statistical data to prepare reports and studies for use by professionals.

Required Skills:
  • 11-15. yrs as SME in complex enterprise level projects
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, IT or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of experience working in public safety radio communications systems and DAS systems
  • 3 years of interoperable radio experience
  • 3 years of experience with integration of P25 and 4G / 5G DAS systems Infrastructure
  • 3 years of experience with RF engineering tools to simulate 4G and LMR coverage analysis
  • 3 years of experience in drive testing P25 radio systems and 4G/5G cellular systems
  • 3 years of radio network coverage and interference analysis experience
  • 3 years of experience in In-building wireless systems design, implementation, testing, monitoring and interference management
  • 3 years of experience in troubleshooting wireless systems including LMR, 4G/5G, and DAS
  • 3 years of experience with public safety infrastructure
  • 3 years of experience with P25 radio network
  • 3 years of experience and knowledge of public safety communications and interoperability
  • 1 year of experience and knowledge with LTE and P25 standard practices
  • 3 years of experience and knowledge of DAS operations
  • 6 years of experience and knowledge of wireless communications - combination of theory and practice
