Delivery Unit, Global Development Sr. Director, Program Management Team Leader

Position Summary

The Program Management Team Leader provides strategic and operational leadership, functionalmanagementand people development for the Program Management group, driving the allocation,developmentand training of resources to support the execution of the portfolio.

The Program Management Team Leader partners closely with DU DAS or ED Leader and Therapeutic Area DAS leadership to drive and operationalize compound development strategy and tooptimizeportfolio value.

The Program Management Team Leader helps the DU toidentifyand escalate portfolio/program risks and issues and to resolve these in collaboration with all R&D functions.

The Program Management Team Leader is responsibleto ensureall associated resources are plannedin accordance withthe Global Development workforce management plan toassurethe capabilities and experience levels of the staff meet thethespecific needs of the Delivery Unit, toidentifygaps andassurethat staff are developed to fulfil those gaps.

The role will be accountable to hire,onboardand train the resources needed to support the execution of the portfolio tooptimizevalue.

The Program Management group primarilyconsistsProgram Management Leaders who are a thought partner to the CDT leaders and co-createsthe CDT strategy and translates it into a comprehensivecrossfunctionalplan that delivers optimized program outcomes.

PMLs areresponsibleenabling the CDT todeliveryoptimaloutcomes and translating the Compound Development Team (CDT) strategy into a Compound Development Plan (CDP).

Principal Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic operational leadership over the PML group and DAS Delivery Team of theDeliverlyUnit and the portfolio managed by the PML group:

  • Provide ALL direct reporting and operational leadership over the DAS PML group and the portfolio managed by the PML group. Increased DAS specific responsibilities including co-leadership with DAS DU Leader at DAS Extended Leadership Team.

  • Strategy and execution support and planningregardingfinance, milestone, and CDP alignment tooptimizeportfolio value. Including supportingteam'son approach to governance and escalating issues to senior management in support of unblocking work for the teams.

  • Drive excellence,efficiencyand consistency across the project management teams, and make the right connections across DU and JNJ IM (i.e.TA, GD, DPDS, Finance, Regulatory) to enableoptimaldelivery of the DAS strategy and portfolio value.

  • Single point of accountability with the Program Management Capabilities Leader from BGIA to ensure PML capabilities and innovations are at or above industry standards and are effectively deployed to the DU.

  • Ensure best practices and PML capabilities areleveragedacross the DAS portfolio, DU,BGIAand JNJ IM. Through supporting the PMLCoP.

  • Participation in DU/DAS/ED meetings, and contributing to the Annual DAS/ED Progress report.

  • Partners with key Delivery Unit stakeholders, and creates a culture of cross-functional collaboration across all teams:

  • Lead the PML organization so that project resource planning is completed. Including establishing and managing budget and resource allocation in the PM group. Oversee staff workload to ensureoptimalutilizationof resources.

  • Innovation and optimization:

  • Sets strategic,innovativeand operationalobjectivesfor their organization byidentifyinghigh impact opportunities across DU and GD, ensuring their alignment with overall DU and GDobjectives.

  • Use an innovative and forward-thinking mindset toidentify,adaptand apply novel and creative methodologies thatoptimizeproject managementecosystem.

  • Leadership for the development and implementation of these innovative business practices and improved processes to the DU and GD through initiative leadership.

  • Build a high performing team throughon-goingdevelopment, performancemanagementand coaching. Take ownershipfor ensuringa strong pipeline of leaders within the organization through the Succession Planning process, and foster employee engagement,inclusionand Credo Behaviors.

  • Be the external face of program management for JNJ IM byparticipatingin program management congresses through presentation of PM innovations or panel membership

Education and Experience Requirements

  • A BS degree in a scientific discipline isrequired. An advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, MD, PhD) is preferred.

  • A minimum of 15 years with progressive leadership experience in thePharmaceuticalindustry

  • A minimum of 8-10 years ofpeoplemanagement experience isrequired.

  • Expert knowledge ofdrugdevelopment process over the product life cycle, from discovery to marketing isrequired.

  • Expert knowledge of project management and portfolio management isrequired.

  • Trusted, inclusive, leader withdemonstratedexperience in managing and leading teams through changeand tohigher performance. Successfultrack recordof developing talent. Effective leadership skills and proven ability to foster team productivity and cohesiveness.

  • Ability to provide visionary and strategic leadership. Excellent communication and influencing skills and ability toestablishstrong and enduring relationships in a global matrix environment as well as the innate flexibility to work in a rapidly growing and changing organization.

Compensation and Benefits

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs commiserate with experience and adjusted to country location guidelines.
Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation's performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company's discretion on an individual basis.

In the United States of America, the anticipated base pay range for this position is $173,000 to $299,000.

Employees and/or eligible dependents may be eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

Employees may be eligible to participate in the Company's consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

Vacation - up to 120 hours per calendar year

Sick time - up to 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington - up to 56 hours per calendar year

Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays - up to 13 days per calendar year of Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
