Position Summary:

The Inventory Control Specialist is responsible for maintaining accurate physical inventory and ERP system inventory records within a metal fabrication manufacturing environment. This position ensures inventory integrity through cycle counting, physical inventory audits, transaction verification, material reconciliation, and continuous monitoring of inventory processes. The Inventory Control Specialist works closely with Purchasing, Production, Shipping, Receiving, and Planning to ensure inventory accuracy supports on-time production and customer deliveries.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Inventory Accuracy

  • Conduct daily cycle counts and inventory audits according to established schedules.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies between physical inventory and ERP records.
  • Perform root cause analysis of inventory variances and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual physical inventory counts.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy metrics and report trends to management.
  • Maintain inventory locations and ensure materials are stored in designated locations.

 

ERP Transaction Management

  • Verify accuracy of inventory transactions including:
  • Material receipts
  • Material issues
  • Work order transactions
  • Transfers
  • Returns
  • Scrap transactions
  • Inventory adjustments
  • Review ERP transaction activity for errors and omissions.
  • Correct inventory transaction discrepancies in accordance with company procedures.
  • Support ERP data integrity initiatives and process improvements.
  • Train employees on proper inventory transaction procedures when required.

 

Material Control

  • Verify raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory quantities.
  • Audit material movement throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure proper material identification and traceability.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, excess inventory, or obsolete material.
  • Assist with inventory organization and warehouse housekeeping efforts.

 

Process Improvement

  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory control processes.
  • Develop and maintain inventory control procedures and work instructions.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 2 years of inventory control, warehouse, manufacturing, or materials management experience.
  • Experience working within an ERP system in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and inventory reporting tools.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Experience with cycle counting and physical inventory processes.
  • Understanding of inventory control best practices and material flow.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management systems.
