Job description

The Salvation Army’s Athol Corps., is hiring a Dance Instructor and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

Location: 107 Ridge Ave., Athol, MA

Hours/week: 2-5 hours per week

Exemption: Non-exempt

Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour

*starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications*

The Performing Arts Dance Instructor is responsible for presenting a positive and competent image of The Salvation Army through a quality dance program designed to meet the needs of the children.  Assist as a Kid’s club aid and do drama skits with the children.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Provide instruction in dance using sound principles, effective techniques, and age-appropriate teaching methods.
  2. Teach dance classes to children of diverse backgrounds and varying ability levels.
  3. Develop and implement programs that are tailored to meet the needs and skill levels of participants.
  4. Establish individual goals and provide personalized instruction to support each participant’s growth and development.
  5. Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment. Report any facility-related hazards or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor promptly.
  6. Ensure that all classes begin and end on time.
  7. Select music and other instructional materials that align with the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  8. Remain sensitive to the spiritual needs of participants and, when appropriate, refer individuals to the Corps Officer or Pastor, who is an ordained minister.
  9. Observe classes conducted by other instructors to provide constructive feedback and assist in preparation for performances.
  10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education Requirements:

High School or GED Required

 

Work Experience:

1+ years of experience teaching interpretive dance

 

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be able to work and relate well with people, particularly children
  • Must be able to cover the program when Corps Officer is away
  • Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs
  • Must be able to meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department and The Salvation Army.
  • Must be able to teach large and small groups of children ranging from age 4 to 12
