What does a dairy cattle manager do?

A Dairy Cattle Manager oversees the daily operations of a dairy farm, focusing on the care, feeding, and health of dairy cows to ensure optimal milk production. Their responsibilities include managing staff, monitoring animal health, maintaining records, and implementing herd improvement programs. They also manage breeding, calving, and ensure that the farm complies with safety and environmental regulations. Effective Dairy Cattle Managers use both hands-on animal husbandry skills and farm management techniques to achieve farm goals.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a dairy cattle manager?

To thrive as a Dairy Cattle Manager, you need expertise in animal husbandry, nutrition, and herd health management, often supported by a degree in animal science or agriculture. Familiarity with farm management software, milking systems, and herd health tracking tools is typically required.
