Daily Bread Food Bank works towards long-term solutions to end hunger and poverty and runs innovative programs to support individuals living on low incomes and experiencing food insecurity. Daily Bread distributes fresh and shelf-stable food, and fresh-cooked meals to 144 member agencies and 214 food programs across Toronto. Daily Bread also publishes the influential Who’s Hungry report - an annual survey measuring trends in food insecurity and poverty in Toronto to educate the public and spark policy change. 
    
Job Title:  DZ Driver 
Department:  Operations  
Reporting to:  Operations Manager 
Location:  Daily Bread Food Bank, 191 New Toronto Street, Etobicoke, is the location of our operation. Drivers will start and end their day at this location
Salary:  $60,000- $63,000 per annum, commensurate with experience  
Terms:   Full–time, Permanent role
Work Hours: Monday- Friday, 35 hours per week; need to work extra hours when deemed necessary from time to time.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES  
 
This position requires a motivated, professional, energetic person who shares our high standards for customer service, safety, and a common desire to create and sustain a healthy, safe, and friendly work environment.  They will have an understanding and compassion surrounding the issues and challenges faced by those without adequate food and living in poverty with the desire to help make a difference.  
  
Our drivers are public facing and represent Daily Bread in their day-to-day work.  They are trusted to handle agency deliveries and donor pick-ups with the utmost care and respect in the interaction with the customer or partner and in the care of the food/products.  They are responsible for engaging with our member agencies, our donors, their co-workers, and the public in a friendly and professional manner. They will drive a company vehicle to transport both perishable and non-perishable food items to and from Daily Bread; load and unload through a variety of mechanisms; use electronic proof of delivery technology; prepare paperwork and perform daily vehicle safety checks to ensure on road safety.  
  
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES  
  
  • Drive company vehicles with a focus on road safety and accident prevention. 
  • Deliver pallets of food to our member agencies daily.  
  • Picking up pallet or donation bins/boxes of food donations from various locations including grocery stores, schools, firehalls and industry warehouses.  
  • Load empty pallets, milk crates, bread trays and return them to the Daily Bread warehouse for return and refund to the vendor.  
  • Highly committed to customer service when performing delivery or pickup duties and operates in a safety focused, courteous and professional manner.  Promotes and maintains good customer relations.  
  • Shares customer/agency feedback to Daily Bread team including complaints, requests, returns, performance, and potential opportunities.  
  • Practices safe loading/unloading/lifting of product while considering weight restriction and the usage of lifting devices such as a power walkie, pump truck and trolley. 
  • Prior to daily departure, performs daily vehicle/equipment circle check safety inspection, documenting and reporting according to company and government regulations.  
  • Records all stops using handheld smartphone throughout the workday and deliveries along with paperwork being completed in full and handed in at the end of every shift.  
  • Ensure their drivers’ license is up to date and reports all infractions, tickets and accidents received both on and off duty that will affect their driving record.    
  • Enthusiastically participates in special events both onsite and offsite – required to participate in a minimum of 2 per year.  
  • Performs Warehouse Support responsibilities when not engaged in primary responsibilities.  
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned (i.e.:  organizing the dock, cleaning out truck, dump runs, etc.)  
  Health & Safety 
  •  Promotes a safe and healthy workplace ensuring adherence to legislation and policy.  
  • Participates in health and safety information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, training, etc.).  
  • Uses or wears the equipment, protective devices, or clothing as provided Daily Bread.  
  • Meets the requirements of s. 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act.  
  INTERNAL/EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS  
  • Drivers are the “front line” employees for the Daily Bread agencies we deliver to as well as the donors we pick up from.  It is important that Drivers appear and behave in a professional manner.  
  • Drivers are expected to work closely with the Operations team to ensure inbound and outbound order accuracy.  
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE (or equivalent)  
 
  • Valid AZ/ DZ driver's license with a minimum of 3 years of continuous AZ/DZ truck driving experience and a clean abstract.  
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience  
  • Familiar with the GTA and surrounding area to ensure efficient and timely delivery and pick-up of products.  
  • Experience with TMS or other transportation management systems preferred.  
  • Previous warehouse experience and forklift certification is an asset.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and move skids with a manual /electric pump truck.  
  •  Willingness to occasionally work a flexible schedule.  
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS  
 
Daily Bread Food Bank, 191 New Toronto Street, Etobicoke, is the location of our operation. Drivers will start and end their day at this location.  
 
191 New Toronto Street is a warehouse environment and requires safety equipment to be worn.  The environment is often highly active and noisy, can be dusty, the temperature varies since the area is climate-controlled, and requires time spent in coolers and freezers.    
 
There is a need to assist with the off-site collection of food at trade shows and other Daily Bread special events and to work extra hours when deemed necessary from time to time.   
 
This is a fast-paced and physically demanding job. Employees are required to stand, bend, stretch and lift; a need to operate manual and powered pump trucks, potentially being required to go into drive-in fridge and freezer for short periods, and a requirement to lift to 50 lbs.
