UMV – Seasonal Customer Service Representative

Starting Pay: $20/hour + commissions 

UMV is a private, employee-owned company contracted with the Alaska DMV to process vehicle related transactions and identification services. Our team helps eliminate long DMV lines by providing fast, accurate, and friendly service to Alaskans. 

This role is ideal for a professional willing to fill a supporting role while also engaging with clients and utilizing computers to complete basic DMV transactions. 

Success in this role requires attention to detail, a strong focus on teamwork and a commitment to accuracy and compliance.

Who We’re Looking For 

Successful UMV team members typically have: 

  • Experience handling payments or financial transactions 
  • Strong attention to detail when reviewing documents 
  • Comfort using multiple computer systems simultaneously (40+ WPM preferred) 
  • Ability to stay organized and accurate in busy environments 
  • Willingness to support a team effort 
  • Confidence suggesting additional services when appropriate 
  • Great interpersonal skills 

Preferred backgrounds include: 

  • In-person customer service experience 
  • Experience using computers 
  • Experience working with and supporting a team 

Minimum Requirements 

  • At least 18 years of age 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • Valid Alaska driver's license or ID 
  • Experience using computers to assist customers 
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy 
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs. 

What You Will Be Doing 

You will assist the team with additional tasks, engage with clients in the lobby and process basic transactions while maintaining high accuracy and professionalism. 

This position combines the transaction accuracy of a bank teller with the customer service of a hotel front desk professional. 

Daily responsibilities include: 

  • Supporting the team by taking photos, laminating documents and other tasks 
  • Processing basic DMV related transactions 
  • Reviewing legal documents to ensure compliance with DMV regulations 
  • Using multiple computer systems to complete transactions 
  • Processing payments through a point-of-sale system 
  • Offering customers additional services beyond the basic DMV transaction 

Accuracy & Compliance Expectations 

Because UMV processes official DMV records: 

  • Work is audited internally and by the Alaska DMV 
  • UMV’s accuracy standard is 98% 

Schedule 

  • May be adjusted for seasonal employees 
  • Full-time (40 hours per week) with some overtime as needed 
  • Office hours: Monday – Saturday, 8:45 AM – 6:00 PM 
  • Sunday is always off 
  • Second day off varies based on schedule rotation 
  • Schedules posted monthly 
  • The length of employment will be between May and September. Employment end date will be determined by customer volume and will be coordinated with the manager. 

Compensation 

  • $20 per hour 
  • Commissions on additional services
