Job Description:
Job Summary
Responsible for training and working as a full-time team member within the pharmacy department while receiving on-the-job instruction and hands-on experience. Assists pharmacists in preparing, distributing, and delivering medications in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Participates in inventory management, replenishes automated dispensing cabinets, and provides customer service to patients and healthcare staff. Gains exposure to diverse pharmacy roles and settings to develop comprehensive technical skills. Prepares for national certification by utilizing provided resources, guided learning, and practical experience.
Essential Functions
• Prepares, packages, and labels patient-specific medication doses under pharmacist supervision.
• Assists with drug procurement, preparation, and distribution according to regulations.
• Provides customer service to patients, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
• Ensures timely availability and relocation of medications for patient care units.
• Maintains accurate records for medication preparation, inventory, and billing.
• Processes cash transactions, refunds, and insurance claims following compliance guidelines.
• Manages inventory, rotates stock, and removes outdated or unused medications.
• Performs quality control functions and documents workload activities.
• Supports training and education of trainees, students, and observers.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
Active KY Board of Pharmacy Registration
High school diploma or equivalent and vocational/technical training in a designated technical area
Experience Requirement
0-2 years of experience in a healthcare, clinical setting, or a relevant area
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
