Job description

Pathology Lab Supervisor - Histotechnologist (HTL) 

Day Shift M-F 8:30-5pm 

Location: Poughkeepsie, NY 

Position Highlights:

  • Full-time, onsite leadership position - Direct Hire 
  • Reports to: Director of Laboratory
  • Base salary range: $93,000 - $104,000 annually (based on experience, credentials, education, and internal equity)
  • Seeking a Histotechnologist (HTL) with New York State licensure
  • Opportunity to oversee pathology laboratory operations and supervise laboratory staff
  • Hands-on role with approximately 50% bench responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform bench testing and technical duties including histology/grossing, urine cytology, urine FISH, microbiology, semen analysis, and urinalysis
  • Supervise laboratory staff and assist with personnel functions including scheduling, PTO approval, timekeeping, and annual evaluations
  • Oversee daily pathology and clinical laboratory operations, including LIS/EMR interfaces and equipment maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with NYS, federal, and accrediting agency requirements
  • Maintain laboratory records, procedures, and regulatory documentation
  • Develop and update policies and SOPs as needed
  • Assist with validation studies, new test implementation, and equipment evaluations
  • Manage proficiency testing, corrective actions, competency assessments, and continuing education requirements
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance, service contracts, and repairs
  • Participate in quality meetings, specimen audits, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • HTL certification required
  • Active New York State Histotechnologist license required
  • Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience preferred
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a NYS-certified laboratory strongly preferred
  • Strong background in histology processes required
  • Experience with microbiology processes is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative laboratory environment
